"What do you mean by that? I mean i know you said she's a bit distant but what else?" jj asks as we slowly make our way down a long beach.

"Well, when she found out what i did, she almost kicked me out but she couldn't risk our families reputation, she didn't even tell Top." I say quietly as i sit down in the sand.

"What did you even do?" jj asks as he sits down next to me.

I sigh as i look at him, "Like i told you last time you asked, i can't tell you." I say as i start writing my name in the sand.

He studies my hand as i carefully form each letter in the sand, "Octavia and Topper, how the fuck did your mom come up with that?"

"Well, Octavia is from the latin word Octavius, it translates to eight and 888 the angel number is a reminder to thank the universe for the miracles in your life." I say as i draw swirls around my name.

"I was a rainbow baby, my parents tried to have another kid between me and Top but my mom miscarried, so i guess i was like a miracle in their life." I shrug.

"Instead of a miracle she acts like i was brought from hell just to destroy her." I mutter.

"And Topper?" He asks and i sigh as i look up at him, "Toppers a good kid, i know you don't think he is but, he's just around the wrong people."

"Like you." jj says and i raise an eyebrow, "I think i can pick my friends for myself, thank you."

"You're not like them you know that right, the other kooks." He says as he looks out at the water.

"Oh yeah? Then what am i like?" I ask as i pull my sunglasses over my eyes.

"You're stuck up but you're not a bitch, i mean you can say some bitchy things but not intentional." He shrugs.

"Well Mr.Maybank you have proven you know nothing about me." I say with a laugh.

"Well i do know you can throw one hell of a punch." He laughs, "I was bruised in places i didn't even know i could bruise."

"Well...When you attack my friends i'll fight you back." I shrug.

"They kinda deserved it." He says as he looks at me.

"No one deserves that." I say quietly and he looks at me, "Not even Ward Cameron?" He asks with a laugh and i immediately tense up.

"Are you ok?" He asks as he looks at me and i give him a small smile, "Yeah."

"Sorry about shitting on Ward, i know your families are close but you gotta admit he's a total asshole." He says.

"We're not close." I reply as i stand up and start walking towards the water.

"I thought you were doing some research for him last summer." jj points out as he stands up.

"Research doesn't mean we're close." I shrug and he walks up next to me, "Did something happen-" He starts to say.

I turn my head towards him and give him a smile, "I love water."

He raises an eyebrow as he looks at me, "water?" He asks and i nod as i start running into the ocean.

I take a deep breath before plunging into the cold water, i honestly liked the water a lot, it's peaceful at times but can also be dangerous when it wants to be, kinda reminds me of myself.

I suddenly feel a hand grabbing onto my shoulder and pulling me out of the water.

I rub my eyes a few times before opening them and seeing jj standing in front of me.
"You interrupted my thought process." I groan.

"You were under there for way too long." He huffs and i raise an eyebrow, "What do you care?"

"I was just worried alright?" He shrugs and i look up at him, "You're not so bad Maybank." I say with a smile.

"Neither are you Thornton." Before i could respond, i feel his hand wrap around the back of my head and his lips press against mine.
