IT WAS RARE TO SEE THE TWO PARTENS SIBLINGS ARGUE. Anyone on the Outer Banks could justify that, but if you asked the neighbors in the apartment Jack leased, they wouldn't be able to tell you the same words.
Rein and Jack were both sure that last night was the most they every argued in the sixteen years they've known each other.
As much as the brunette wanted to believe that her brother was given pills to make him overdose, she couldn't help but think he was just trying to make excuses. Sure, Sammy Pike did deal, but not once did the kid have have bad blood with her brother and a vengeance big enough to want to end Jack Partens life. Rein had had a history with Sammy, and honestly, not a very good one. Although she hated the boy with every bone in her body from what he did to her, she was sure he wasn't a psychopath that would willing give someone pills knowing it would kill them.
Needless to say, Rein had a hard time believing her brother when he blamed his overdose on an seventeen year old. For the first time, she couldn't stand being around her brother. There were too many things that didn't add up to Jack Partens overdose, but Rein didn't want to even think about the day — or the day that led up to her brothers almost death.
Aster had filled Rein in the night the duo got high that the Holloway parents were never around. The blonde had told Rein that they were always gone on business trips and Ayla did most of the caring when it came to Aster.
