REIN HAD AVOIDED THE CHÄTEAU AFTER LEAVING JJ. She knew the boy would most likely be heading in that direction, and she wasn't completely ready to encounter him again. Plus, she figured him and Kie would need to talk and she offered no help besides sitting there.
So, when she did storm off from the Maybank residence, Rein headed home. She felt bad for ditching Jack and not giving him her proper attention to ask questions and be curious when Kiara showed up. She had disappeared for a month and left her brother wondering only to return home and spend a little over an hour with him before running off again. It wasn't fair to him.
However, when she did return home, Jack was no where to be found throughout the small house and his truck was no longer parked outside of it. For the first time since she had returned, Rein felt a sense of emptiness. The entire since she had gotten back she had spent her time talking to people, catching up with people. Now, she was left with her own thoughts that threatened to consume her mind with every tick of the clock hung on the wall.
Silence was something Rein hated beyond comparison to anything else. Not the type of silence that engulfed a movie theater, or the comfortable kind where you're just enjoying someone's presence — but the kind that left you to think. It seemed that whenever she did seem to think, she couldn't stop.
