THE MIDDAY SUN CASTED A GLOW. It hewed a yellow color along everything and created a heat tone to everything down below. It reminded Rein of the sun in Outer Banks, only the hew there had more of an orange tone than yellow.

Her mind drifted to Kiara Carrera and she began to wonder if she made the wrong decision by accompanying John B. Their relationship was already in a fragile state, and Rein didn't want to do anything to crack it. They were learning how to love each other again — although neither of the two were sure it completely went away during the time they were apart.

Rein was no stranger to the trucks that passed on the way up to the church. She had noticed the men armed with guns and military style gear heading for the marina, she had only hoped that the Pogue's wouldn't be spotted before John B and herself could get back safely.

As John B begged to anyone willing to listen, Rein found herself not thinking about Big John, but her brother instead. She wondered what he was doing right now, what he did to keep his mind busy while he had no idea where his younger sister disappeared to. She also was curious to know if Ayla and Aster were still at her small home or if they had drifted back to their own house over the month she was gone. Rein couldn't help but wonder if Jack drifted with them.
