"Why? What do we need to discuss?" she asked, turning her eyes back to him.

"We need to discuss the marketing proposal. I want to help you put it together because I want everything to be perfect when you present it to my Uncle."

"Oh, ummmm. Okay," she said hesitantly. "I guess we could do that." The thought of having dinner alone with him scared the shit out of her.

"Great. Give me your phone and I'll put my number in so you can text me your address to pick you up," he said, holding his hand out.

She felt nervous about this entire thing as she looked up into his grey eyes. Even though her intuition was screaming no, she reached into her purse and handed him her phone.

She saw him typing away on it and then she heard his phone ding because he had sent himself a text from her phone.

He handed it back to her and said, "I'll see you tonight," in his deep husky tone that sent a shiver down her spine before turning and walking out of the room with his team. Victoria walked next to him and as they went through the door she looked over her shoulder and sent daggers with her eyes at Emma.

Emma wondered if she was his girlfriend or just wanted to be. Whatever she was, there was no reason to be jealous because she had absolutely no interest in EVER dating Axel Hart again.

As Emma drove her BMW across town through the heavy traffic after work she couldn't help but feel anxious. She couldn't believe she was having dinner alone with Axel tonight. She parked in the underground parking under the high-rise she lived in in downtown Chicago and took the elevator up to the 35th floor where her luxury condo was.

She considered putting on a nice dress and fixing herself up for their dinner but then she decided that could send the wrong message. She wanted to make sure it was clear that this was strictly a business dinner, so she decided to stay in what she had worn to work that day.

At 6:00 pm she heard the doorbell ring and she walked across the living room and opened the door.

Axel had changed out of his Armani suit from earlier and was now wearing dark jeans, shiny black dress shoes and a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the top couple buttons undone.

"Come in," she said. "I still need to get my shoes on and then we can go."

"Nice place," he said, looking around at the modern, up-scale condo that had cost her a fortune. "Do you live here alone?" he asked.

She narrowed her eyes at him and shook her head. "Is that your sneaky way of asking if I'm single?" she laughed. "Real subtle."

"No," he laughed. "If I wanted to know if you were single Emma I would've just asked. When have you ever known me to be afraid to say what's on my mind?"

"This is true. You have absolutely no filter. You should probably work on that before you become the CEO of your Uncle's company. Some people might think it's not very professional," she said, strapping her high heel around her ankle and standing up, straightening out her skirt.

"Ready?" she asked. "I'm driving."

He shook his head and said, "No, I'm driving."

She laughed and looked over at him. "Why? Are you afraid to ride in a car with a woman driver?"

"No. I just prefer to drive. Being a passenger isn't really my thing."

"Yeah. You always were a bit of a control freak," she said, rolling her eyes. "That's another thing you need to work on."
