I woke up with a start, sitting up in the empty bed as I tried to catch my breath. The night was cool, but I was sweating profusely.

For a moment, I thought I wasn't alone in the room, but I quickly realized that that feeling was greatly attributed to the balcony doors that had been blown open by the reasonably powerful evening breeze.

The doors kept colliding with the wall as the breeze blew in steady intervals, creating a banging sound that resonated over and over.

I threw the blankets off of myself and got to my feet, rushing over to pull the doors shut.

The beach-house was a very lonely place, but even though I was all alone, there were memories that resided within its confines that, albeit haunting, gave me a renewed sense of strength to push through with a life I no longer wanted.
