The difference between us

Chapter 06

Katie's POV
My sisters and I just got done getting ready for bed. We washed our faces, brushed our teeth, and put on pjs.

I was just about to crawl into be when my phone goes off indicating that I got a text. I groaned not in the mood to talk to anyone, but just as I'm about to tell whoever it is to fuck off I see that it's from Jake....

JB: Our spot?

I sigh and text back.

KS: It's late, we have a busy day tomorrow, and you said everything that you needed to say. We're not friends anymore Jacob.

Figuring that that would be the end of it I went back to tucking myself in only for my phone to go off again! I picked it up and saw another message from Jake.

JB: Actually, I didn't get a chance to say anything. I don't want our friendship to end, Katie, I want to come clean about everything. So please, come to our spot?

I started biting my thumb nail in thought when Evie spoke up and said "You should meet up with him" I turned to look at her dumbly and ask "Huh?" Evie gave me a look and said "As long as your back before midnight, then you can go see Jake. Who knows? Maybe he finally realized that he loves you and not Bella" I flushed and snapped "Fuck off!" Making my sisters laugh at my embarrassment.

Maddie spoke up this time and said "You should go. You've been in love with Jake since we were kids. If you don't at least try to fight for him, or make it work out despite everything....what chance do the rest of us have?" We all looked at my youngest sister in surprise, before I developed a determined look on my face and texted Jake back.

KS: Fine. But you're only getting 10 minutes.

Evie gave me the keys to her car, and I grabbed my my coat and slipped on my house shoes. I got in the car and drove towards La Push and to one of the many cliff sides at First Beach.

Once I found a specific one, I parked and made my way towards it. Jake was sitting there staring at his phone. I peered over his shoulder and saw that it was a picture of me and him before Bella moved here. We were at a bonfire and I was sitting on his lap we were all eagerly waiting for Sam to propose to Emily.

Leah was especially excited to be the cool gay aunt that was going to spoil her nieces/nephews rotten.

My mom had taken the picture of us after we ate the food. It had gotten cold so I snuggled up to Jake for warmth and he wrapped up in his arms and held me close, as if he feared that I'd slip away from him otherwise.

"I remember that night..." I said softly, making Jake whirl around in surprise before his face softened and he turned his head back around to look at the picture "Yeah, I remember it too....it's my favorite memory" he said. I shook my head and pulled out my phone and said "This one's my favorite" and pulled up a picture from when we were 12 years old and a little while after Bella had declared that she would no longer be visiting Forks.

We had snuck out late at night one summer. Me, him, Quil, Embry, and Mary had all gone to 7/11 and got a crap tone of candies and snacks and we each got slushies before heading to First Beach and making a small bonfire where we told ghost stories and talked about our future. Jake had given me a piggyback ride back to his house where we spent the night in the living room.

Jake smiled at the memories and nodded "That was a good night as well" he sat down his phone and sighed "There's no easy way to say this...so I'll just show you" I looked at him confused until he started undressing "Jake! What the hell?!" I quickly went to cover my eyes but he grabbed my wrist and said "Just trust me...okay?" I hesitated, but nodded.

Jake striped down until he was in his boxers. Then steam started coming off his body and his bones started snapping until he transformed into a giant wolf!

I sat there frozen in shock. Jake let out a whimper and got on his stomach before army crawling towards me. He nuzzled my hand and I quickly snatched it back making him let out a whine. I hesitantly started petting him "Jake.....? Jake is that really you?" I asked still in shock and attempting to wrap my head around this situation.

A wolfy Jake nodded his head before pulling away from me and shifting back into his human form. I averted my eyes as to not stare at his.....not so little 'friend'.

Once Jake was dressed again he told me about how all the Quilete legends were real. From the spirit protectors to the Cold Ones.

He said there was more that he needed to tell me, but my sisters also needed to know the truth so he asked if I could bring them to Emily and Sam's house tomorrow.

I agreed and we both went our separate ways.

I don't think either of us anticipated the shit storm that would come tomorrow or in the following days, that came in the form of Bella Swan.
