Chapter 24

Mew found himself unable to concentrate during the meeting, his thoughts consumed by Gulf's unexpected request to take over the business. It puzzled him, as Gulf had previously expressed concerns about not involving himself for sake of Rose and Alexa, and now he seemed willing to compromise their safety.

Reluctantly, Mew considered reaching out to Rose to inquire about the situation, despite his aversion to doing so. He knew that Gulf confided in her, which made him jealous, but right now he needed to keep aside his jealousy and seek answers that he wouldn't get from Gulf.

Excusing himself in the middle of the meeting, Mew attempted to call Rose but couldn't get through. Frustrated, he contacted one of his men he had assigned to protect her and Alexa. To his surprise, he discovered that Gulf had ordered the guards to stand down. None of it made any sense, and Mew couldn't shake the feeling that Gulf might be planning to disappear again, especially given his recent suspicious behavior.

"Hey handsome!" Kao whispered in Mew's ear when Mew was lost in thoughts which made Mew startle.
"Stop it Kao!" Irritated, Mew snapped at him.
"Wohhhhh what's with the mood? Who died?"

"I am sorry!" Mew apologised gaining his composure.
"Something is up with Gulf! He is not letting me in!" Mew shared his concerns with Kao.

"Do you want me to talk to him?" Kao asked
Mew thought for a while and replied
"No! He is planning to disappear again"

Kao gently squeezed Mew's shoulders and softly asked him again.
"How can I help? You know I don't like seeing you stressed"
Mew gently detached himself from Kao
"Quit it Kao. You know I love Gulf"

"Yeah yeah. I know. But how am I wrong in taking care of my crush! Anyways, Gulf is my friend too. So I want to help"

Despite his reservations, Mew eventually gave in and asked Kao to track Rose and Alexa, hoping that speaking with Rose might shed some light on the situation.
Kao agreed and immediately got on to the job. He was the best hunter in the business. But then again, he had his doubts. Although Kao was the best hunter the only time when he failed in tracking..Gulf.

After concluding his meeting, Mew headed straight to his office only to find Gulf and Tul engaged in a serious discussion. Mew gave them a stern look, silently urging one of them to start explaining the situation.

Gulf attempted to speak but seemed paralyzed with fear, unable to utter a word. Tul, exasperated with Gulf's silence, took it upon himself to explain.

"Rose and Alexa.. "
" I know.. they are missing.  The guards were reassigned last week! May I know why Nong?" Mew did not let Tul finish his sentence.

"How do you know?" Tul asked ignoring the frozen Gulf.
Looking at petrified Gulf, Mew's demeanour became softer. Mew ignored Tul and consoled Gulf that he would not let any harm come to his family. He reassured Gulf saying that
Kao is already on the job to track them and that he will find them soon.

"What!". This revelation shocked both Gulf and Tul, leaving them bewildered.

Seeking clarity, Mew demanded to know what was going on, but Gulf was too shocked to respond. Instead, Gulf quickly contacted someone to alert them and rushed off, with Tul following closely behind.

"You idiot!" Tul cursed Mew not minding his position in the office.
"Will someone please tell me what's going on?" Mew was left in the dark, unable to comprehend the unfolding situation, Mew tried to catch up with them.

"P'Tul, let me do this alone. I can't risk Mew" Gulf pleaded to Tul to which he agreed.
"Don't worry about Mew" Tul assured Gulf

Just when Gulf was entering the car, he received a call
"Gulf! You sweet little potato!" Kao squealed in happiness on the other side of the call
"I didn't know you were soooo obedient! You already started your plan to disappear from Mew's life!" Gulf took some time but soon realised that Kao misunderstood the situation.
"Come to my place right now" Kao ordered. Gulf was full of determination and he left hastily.

"Why did you let him leave alone? What is going on Tul!" Mew barked at Tul, gripped with fear and confusion at the same time as he saw Gulf speeding away.

Later, Mew and Tul sat together in Mew's office, trying to make sense of the situation. Mew couldn't believe that Kao, whom he considered a friend, would threaten Gulf. He hoped that it was just a misunderstanding. Didn't Kao love Gulf?
"Maybe Gulf is just misunderstanding Kao" Mew gave Kao the benefit of doubt
"I hope so too.. but before Gulf could tell me the entire truth you barged in.
For now, let us trust Gulf. You know he is good. Have some faith." Tul urged Mew to trust Gulf, emphasizing that Gulf was a good and knew what he was doing.

"Shut up Tul! It should be me protecting him, not the other way round. I can't put him in danger and sit still" Mew was worried and angry at the same time.

"What do you propose?" Tul surrendered to Mew.
"He wants me! Make Gulf disappear, I will take care of the rest" Mew suggested
"But Mew, Gulf mentioned he is not working alone. There is someone backing him. We don't know who it is! Let's wait for Gulf to contact us"

Mew, however, couldn't bear the thought of putting Gulf in danger. So when Tul suggested that they should wait Mew was worried and felt the need to protect Gulf himself.

"I can't take that risk Tul. If he could be with us for four years without raising suspicions who knows what he is capable of." Mew thought out loud.

"Are our guards with Gulf?" Concerned about Gulf's safety, Mew inquired about the guards assigned to Gulf, but there was no communication from them, leaving Mew anxious and uncertain about the situation.
