When the underperforming college student Ronnie Raymond accidentally stumbled into a classified physics experiment, he became endowed with the ability to control nuclear reactions. Unfortunately for him and the rest of humanity he knows next to nothing of nuclear physics. Thus forcing the justice league put a stop to Ronnie's unintended rampage. Realizing the Justice League would have to lock young Ronnie away for his own safety as well as everyone else's a terminal scientist named Martin Stein stepped forward with a solution. He would be placed inside of the man's mind by Martian Manhunter. This would allow him to use his scientific prowess to help the young man control his powers. This in turn would allow Ronnie freedom and Martin an extended life. Now operating as the hero firestorm the pair set out to save the earth using the abilities endowed them.
