As we wait on our meal, we talk— not about anything particular, just small talk to fill the void, however, I am still a bit bothered by the others at the table. Our conversation did little to block out their secretive glances and quiet murmurs. I figured it would end after a while of us sitting here, but it never did until Phil finally had enough and slammed his palm firmly against the table, emitting a loud sound that echoed throughout the room. At that, everyone silences and fully turn our direction to be meet with a very harsh and intense, warning stare from my companion. It startled even me. He taps the tips of his pointy claws lightly against the wood in annoyance, and though no words were spoken, everyone clearly got the message and looked away.

"Forgive them," he mutters while facing me again with an apologetic look. "It is not often they see a living human around here. They're just curious."

"It's fine. I'm just not used to being the center of attention."

"Yeah, that might happen more often now that you're with me. Sorry about that."

"I'm sure I'll get used to it," I assure him with a dainty smile, which he returns. I finally relax in my seat, knowing their eyes are no longer on me. I should've expected to be stared at, I guess. I clearly don't fit in here. I haven't even seen a single human around, though I'm sure there are dead ones somewhere.

I get a chill down my spine just thinking about it, wondering if they still even look human. I'm still new to this place, so I'm sure I'll get my answer in time, but it's still something odd to think about. My queries flee to the back of my mind when a few demons driving metal carts come out of the kitchen, among them are Marquas and Eric, who come to us. The Frenchman sets Phil's dish in front of him as Eric does the same for me while sending me a charming smile. I'm sure to smile back as he sits next to me with his own plate set in front of him. Marquas seats himself on the other side of the table, across from my chair, but pays me no mind, and says,

"Bon appetit." The French demon is the first to take a bite of his coq au vin, which smells absolutely delicious and looks incredible.
