The phone which is currently ringing faintly is coming from inside the house. I drop my phone, my hands shake. My whole body starts to sweat uncontrollably. I look at Jax, he looks confused, is he faking it? Or is he being truthful? All of this is leading me to believe that he had something to do with this. My heart aches at the thought. He's definitely not baby-face because he was a middle-aged man with piercing dark grey eyes. Is Jax working with him? I look around the room to see it spinning. My stomach turning. I drop onto the floor, shutting my eyes tightly. My breathing comes in fast pants. Could I actually be so stupid? All I can picture is my mother, her dark messy hair sitting on the chair, forced to sit, her screams ring in my ears. I feel a hand on my shoulder, I move away, opening my eyes to see Jax. "Get away from me." I wanted to scream the words at him but instead, my voice came out weak, broken. I feel my tears stream down my cheeks.

"Maya, I didn't have anything to do with this." I hear his god-awful voice.

"Then why did the phone ring from inside this house." I should get out. I look at the door. I have a clean escape but part of me wants to stay, to hear what he has to say. To believe him.

"I don't know," He shakes his head looking past me at the door. He lowers his voice. "What if he's in the house?" His eyes widen, mine do the same. I get up off the floor and face Jax.

"If you have anything to do with this, you're going six feet under too." I spit out.

He smiles at me. "It would be a pleasure to die by your hand."

I look at him like he's insane. "Freak," I say turning around and looking for a weapon.

"Here." I turn around and see Jax holding out a baseball bat to me while he's holding another over his shoulder.

"Should we call the phone again?" I ask.

"Yeah, ok" I grab my phone off the floor and call again. The ringtone echoes through the house, my blood runs cold at the thought that he might be in this house right now. "I don't think he's in the house." Jax states. "He probably would've put the phone on silent by now."

"Then why is the phone here." I voice my thoughts.

"Let's find out."

Bats in hand, we open the door. My heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest by how fast it's beating. We trail down the stairs, with Jax in front, shielding me. We check the living room first. Our bats in position, ready to hit anyone. We step in but see that the living room is in the same position we left it earlier. No creepy dude in here. I keep my eyes wide open, just in case we missed a detail. I turn to my right and quickly look behind the curtain. Nothing. Jax turns around and walks out of the room, past me. I follow him into the kitchen. I brace myself before entering. I let out the breath that I didn't realise I was holding. Nobody in here. Jax lowers his bat down and I do the same. He turns to look at me.

"It was definitely coming from downstairs, right?"

"Yeah, sounded like it did."

"Try ringing it again."

I nod doing what he asked. I hear it, louder this time. I look at him and he's sporting the same confused look as I probably am. It's so close.

"Why does it sound-"

"like it's coming from underneath." Jax finishes looking below him.

"Do you have a basement?"

"Well, it's not really my house, but I don't think this house has a basement." HIS UNCLE.

"Jax." I gulp before asking my question. "Where's your uncle?"

"He went off on a business trip."
