Chapter Nine

I was beginning to doubt my decision as the time for the Diner approached I was becoming more and more nervous and I was with Maria on the car with her little brother Adam and Muhammad while we waited for Daniel. I finally spotted him with a guide golden ret. So I got out the car and came near him.

"Hey." As I squared down and carefully pet the dog "ohh he's so adorable what's his name." I asked as the Dog waggled his tail in delight as I

"He sounds like he likes you his name is Jazz."

"Jazz? Why Jazz. It's an adorable name."

"I don't know the name just fit him. And he likes listening to Jazz."

"That's so cute. Aren't you a cute doggy aren't you?"

"You like dogs?"

"I have a soft spot for cute adorable pets."

"She's nice and likes animals Ma Sha Allah a total keeper." He teased making me laugh

"Come on let's go to the others." I told him looking back at the others as we got close I saw Maria waiting out the car she was smiling at first that was until she saw Jazz with us then she totally panicked

"Oh my God get that thing away from me." Maria spoke alarmed as she moved away from Jazz as quickly as you could say A, B, C.

"What's wrong with her?" Daniel asked

"She had a traumatic experience with a crazy dog in our neighborhood when she was little way before I moved here. She really dislikes dogs."

"Oh that's sad Jazz wouldn't hurt her."

"She been afraid of dogs for 10 years telling her Jazz wouldn't hurt her wouldn't do any help." Muhammad informed us coming out of the car.

"Daniel you already know Maria this right here is my good friend Muhammad, Muhammad, Daniel Daniel Muhammad." I tried to introduce them to each other as I

"Hello it's nice to meet you." Muhammad greeted

"Nice to meet you too."

"Come on guys lets go Maria you can walk with me and Daniel and Muhammad can walk together." I called out to her trying to comfort her. We had to get moving Ami so called guest were already here a perfect time to make our entry.

We entered I said my salaam's to the guest which were ami's sister her two sons and her husband and three daughters. I was glad Maria stopped at the shop so we could buy a fruit basket Daniel and Muhammad brought something. Everyone greeted each other and I sat on the floor because the living room couches were full I saw Ami staring at me for a while after everyone else settled in

"Aziza beta can I talk to you in the kitchen?" Ami uttered as she made eye contact with me with silent unspoken threats is I declined the offer as she forcefully smiled at everyone else

"You guys get comfortable I'll be back in a jiffy." I told my friends as I followed her to the kitchen

"What's up Ami?" I asked trying my best to sound clues as to why she so seems upset.

"'What's up?' Are serious right now Aziza I told you this was going to be a special family dinner. Jannah even brought her son Salem here tonight and you ended up inviting your friend.

"You asked me here and my friends are my family as well. So if you try to kick them out you don't know how Maria would react Nd you'd risk losing face introns of Jannah and ruin your chance of trying to pair me up with your nephew."

"I informed her using Maria as a way to threaten her because Maria is the only one alive that can make her loose her cool in front of people. Ami like most people who aren't close to Maria think she's weird unpredictable, highly unstable sugar high over eccentric teen that can make the calmest person crack and go crazy. But in reality Maria doesn't take bull from anyone even if it's a old grandma. I sometimes wonder if she enjoys making people feel like they are loosing it. When people look at our group of close friends with me Hanaan, her, Isabel, Adrian and Muhammad they always wonder how people so different became friends. I returned to the living room with a satisfying smile playing on my lips when Maria saw me she knew right away that the mission has been accomplished.

"Hey guys lets go in the room I suggested noticing how awkward they might have felt surrounded my people staring at them like they were aliens from a different Galaxy. In the room we played truth or dare until we called it quiets and Baheejah called me to bring the food in. We are and talked but cowardly I decided we all leave before Ami's 'special guest' left so that I wouldn't face the aftermath of her wrath

"Hey Azi you should walk Daniel to his place We'll be waiting for you at the stairs." She said wiggling her eyebrows suggestively with a mocking smile. When we entered the building to towards were she lived.

"Okay." Not really understanding what she meant by it at first

"Ziza you're an amazingly sincere person. Even though I'm blind and only known your for a little while I feel at ease around you than I do with people I've known my entire life." Daniel told me as we walked

"I feel flattered I guess I have that affect on people."

"You're lucky to have siblings even though they're not related to you by blood

"I guess I am. But you know what I'm Islam one Muslim is a brother or sister to another Muslim. So I'm like your sister but with boundaries." I told him and we laughed together

"But it'll sound weird calling you my sister."

"How so?"

"I think I like you in a not so brother sister way.

"What do you mean?" I asked mentally smacking myself for that dumb question I knew what he meant.

"I mean I like you so I was wonder if you don't mind spending time together like hang out so we could get to know each other."

"Cool we could totally hang out. Why not your a really cool person to hang out with." Just as I answered him his lips turned to a full on smile.

"Thanks not many people would characterize me as cool now."

"Why would they not?"

"Well I'm blind so they think I'm some weak, useless and an over sensitive person that everyone should be careful of I like that you don't treat me as such. I like that You act normal around me and not weirded out by the fact that I'm blind."

"That's their loss." his smile widen as I said that

"So lets hang out often."

"Just hangout or are are you asking me out on a date?"

"Yeah, I'm asking you out discreetly but we'll keep it totally halal If you're worried about that."

"Halal date? Wow that's interesting. Okay why not." I answered feeling daring tonight I mean I did just go against ami. And this might be my chance to get back at her.
