I never thought I'd see my son be himself again. He certainly didn't look like himself, but he acted more like the Ben that I remembered.
As I gave a speech to what was left of the resistance on Jakku, I noticed "Matt" looking at me but trying to break eye contact every time he realized he was.
I don't even remember what I said, because I just wanted to speak to my son again.
After the resistance had dispursed, I turned to my son and he turned to me. There was nobody there now but us. He started to walk away, but I wouldn't take that.
"Don't even think about it, Ben," I snapped.
I marched up to him and pulled him into a hug. I thought Ben was gone. But he was here. Whether his intentions were good or bad, I still would always love my son.
I tightened my hug and felt him sniffle and snorfle. "Come back, Ben."
He stepped away from me and tried to maintain a glare, but the tears in his eyes built by the second.
"I can't, Leia... Mom."
"Yes you can," I said. "Listen to Rey. She'll help you."
After a couple of seconds, he turned away and stormed off. I knew where he was going. I knew who he was going to.
