Chapter 6: Engaged (Nicholas' POV)

The next week went by with more planning taking place and finally, tonight is the engagement party which we're using to announce this marriage. I was tempted to say alliance there for a second. Both Ella and I have been nervous wrecks because we're getting married to someone we don't even really know.

We've tried meeting here and there and using all the time we have to get to know each other as much as possible before the wedding, but it's difficult to do so considering we both have got fittings for our outfits going on. In fact, I think she's at a fitting for her wedding dress right now.

I'll be engaged tonight. I'll be her fiance. Engaged to her. For marriage.

I had just gotten home from my fitting for the suit I am meant to wear at the wedding.

"Nicholas!" I sighed, stopping in my tracks and turning to my father. "You have to go to the showroom."

"Showroom?"

"The wedding dress showroom. Your mother has gone with Ella and Mrs. Smith but she's forgotten the veil to her dress here. You must take it to her immediately."

Really? They can't just use a different veil for the time being?

One of our housemaids handed me the veil and I huffed, heading out. The showroom luckily isn't that far since they're using the one here in Meralith. I climbed into my car and started driving, putting the veil on the passenger seat.

Once I got there, I parked the car and climbed out, grabbing the veil. I sighed as I opened the door, the bell hanging above it jingling.

"Rebecca, Nicholas is here!" Mrs. Smith called out upon seeing me. I gave her a small smile before greeting her and then following her. My mom was sitting on a couch, observing the room. I don't know what it is, she likes to just sit and observe a room, and then the things she likes, we get.

"Mother," I cleared my throat.

She snapped out of her daze and looked up at me. "Oh, hello dear. I apologize for the trouble this caused," she chuckled, taking the veil out of my hands.

"It's not a problem, I should get going," I nodded.

"Oh, take a breath. Sit down," my mom said, patting the seat beside her.

"No, really. I must-"

"You haven't got anywhere to be, Nicholas. Sit."

"I'm comfortable standing, thank you," I sighed in defeat, leaning my hip against the couch she was sitting on.

"Any trouble, Ella?" my mom called out.

"No, just a moment," she replied. I've seen pictures of my mom's wedding dress. It's... long.

There was a sound of a door's lock clicking open before she pulled the door open. "I couldn't find a veil with the dress in the- oh. Hello," she smiled upon seeing me.

I straightened up, my eyes scanning her from top to bottom. "Hell-" I mumbled. "O. Hello," I nodded. She brushed creases out of the dress while looking down, biting back a smile while I heard our mothers stifling their laughter.

"How do you like it, sweetheart?" my mother asked her as she stood up, helping her onto the somewhat stage directly in front of a mirror.

"I think it's beautiful, Mrs. Williams," Ella smiled.

"It fits her better than mine did, she is definitely wearing that for the wedding!" Mrs. Smith gushed, standing to Ella's left while my mom stood to her right.
