Chapter 7: Fire (Ella's POV)

I looked at myself in the mirror while pinning two pieces of my hair from either side to the back of my head to pin with one of those fancy, sparkly, blingy clips. It had a huge green jewel on it that matched my dress. I shook my head, grabbing the gold heels and sliding them on carefully. I stood up, touched up my lip gloss, and then misted perfume all over myself.

I opened the door to see Mrs. E standing there, waiting. Poor her. She's always sent to help me. I don't understand why my parents don't realize I don't need help. I'm not a little girl who can't get dressed on her own.

"Mrs. E, have you been standing here the whole time?"

"It wasn't any trouble, dearie, just in case you needed any help with your dress."

"I'm sorry, you shouldn't be waiting here for me, you should be on your break," I said.

"It's not a problem," she shook her head.

"Well, how do I look?" I asked, spinning in a circle for her.

"You look wonderful, sweetheart."

"That's Princess Ella to you, Elizabeth." We both turned to the left, seeing my mother coming upstairs probably to 'approve' of what I look like.

"I apologize, madam," she bowed her head down guiltily.

"I told her to stop calling me Princess Ella," I spoke up. "It's weird. Please," I scoffed.

"Do you not understand royalty, Ella? You have been here for three years, please grow up."

"Mother," I said dryly. "She will call me as I please. She calls me Princess Ella in front of your precious guests regardless, so please, allow her to do as I say."

She rolled her eyes at me, "We're leaving for Meralith. Come." I followed her, giving Mrs. E a quick hug, muttering a sorry.

After the long drive, we finally arrived. Obviously, we are the first to arrive since we are the hosts just as much as the Williams. I stretched when no one was looking at then followed my parents inside. All three of the Williams were giving out instructions, making sure the palace looked as prestigious as it possibly could.

"Oh, honey!" Mrs. Williams gushed upon seeing me. "Nicholas!" He looked over. "Take a look at her!" she grinned, giving me a tight hug. My eyes widened in surprise while I hugged her back, noticing Nick stifle his laugh.

He walked over, greeting my parents and then turning to me while my parents kept walking to chat with his all while helping organize.

"Wow, look at you," I taunted.

"Thank you, thank you," he bowed his head. "But you look gorgeous, I must say."

"I was expecting you to use a more dramatic word."

"Like?"

"Breathtaking, enchanting, extravagant," I said dramatically.

"And all of those, of course," he laughed while taking my hand and linking our arms. "The guests will be coming any minute," he informed.

"Can't wait," I mumbled under my breath, feeling the nerves kick in.

"Maybe while we wait, I can show you the library," he said.

I looked up at him, pleasantly surprised. "Sure," I grinned. I walked with him, making small talk until he opened the door to a dark room that had an echo. It must be huge if our voices are echoing.

"Just a moment," he said. He took a step into the darkness before I heard light switches flicking on and then the room lit up with warm lights.

I stepped inside, my mouth agape. "Wow," I whispered more so to myself. "This place is huge," I said as he shut the door, my voice echoing, bouncing off the walls.
