They become Arjun trees due to curse of Sage Narada Maharshi while they were travelling from skyway. Nalakuvara and Manigriva were playing fully naked in river with their dear ones. While approaching in this way, where they were having water sport, seeing sage, other women covered with clothes but Nalakuvara and Manigriva were fully engrossed in sport ignoring sage…this made Sage angry and to teach them lesson, he curses them to remain naked in the form of trees.
And later when they asked forgiveness, he says you both will be delivered by Lord Krishna in Dwapara Yuga.
Now when they become trees, in these trees, there were two demons by name Dhuni and Chamu, who were doing penance for getting the position of Lord Brahma Ji, which was against their capacity and eligibility and their true Nature or Guna.
Knowing all these Lord Krishna in his childhood, when Mother Yashoda ties him with rope to Mortar, he uproots these two trees delivering Nalakuvara and Manigriva and punishing demons Dhuni and Chamu.
