Beryl's POV

Having a mate is an incredible feeling. The soft smiles you throw around each other, the tingly feeling in your stomach whenever they  show up, even their voices make you smile like a fool. It really is an amazing thing

But definitely not my case

Don't get me wrong I love the sound of my alpha's voice and how he looks at me like I'm the only person on his mind

But sometimes, I wish he could trust me a little more. Sure he allowed me to leave the mansion, not without a bodyguard at least. And he calls everyday to make sure I'm safe

That's where it should end

But no, it didn't

Instead I see Bloody in a black car parked in front of my house every day and follows me to the cafe and back

To say I'm pissed is an understatement. Even outside the mansion he manages to keep a hold on me

Sure, I might need protection from some psycho who wants to kill me bacause of Bruce but still, I needed space. Lucas did enough already and now I had to add bloody to the mix.

Come to think of it, Bruce never told me who he was scared of or why. Could it be an ex lover, an assassin, his father who may or may not be like mine. That would make sense. My father kills the mates of his kids so he could choose different ones he believes are more fitting, Bruce's father does the same, it's a win win

I walked out of my apartment with a box of cupcakes I baked last night and see Lucas standing infront of his car with his hands in his pocket looking laid back and wayyy too relaxed for someone who complains about me ruining his peaceful days. As if reading my mind, he casts a look over his shoulder at an all too familiar black car a few feet away. Bloody pops his head out of the window and gives a wave which I return. I head over and give him half of the cupcakes and turn to Lucas

"Finally, I can take a break with him here."

"Good morning to you too." I handed the box over to him and got in the car.
Lucas gets in a few minutes after with crumbs all over his mouth.

"Dont judge me." He wiped his mouth clean with a tissue and started the car.

Three minutes in and the car was dead silent. For some reason, all the problems in my life just swam in my head like a school of fish. My father, my brother, Mason, Bruce, and the café.

My brother and my best friend somehow were mates, that same friend was inlove with me until now and kept the fact that he knew my brother hidden from me, on top of that my father had been really quiet for a while since that night and I couldn't help but feel on edge. Everything was a mess and I couldn't put my head around it. I was usually a free spirit but things are happening. If someone had told me that my life would take a U turn three years ago, I would never have believed it.

"Damn, looks like I can't catch a break after all." Lucas voice drew me out of my mysery.
Before I could look at him however, the car shot forward abruptly leaving me to hold on for dear life as Lucas drove like a mad man high on drugs.

"Are you crazy?" I shouted holding on to the seat belt.

He gave no indication of hearing me and just kept driving. He skilfully drove the car, swerving other cars effortlessly without fear. Suddenly the car stopped.

What in the world is happening?

"Open your eyes, we're safe." I didn't even realize I'd closed my eyes.
When I opened my eyes, I realized that we were in an alley somewhere. My heart was still pounding and I felt dizzy and nauseous.
