“Sabel?” Nagulat na wika ni Patrick nang makita si Sabel sa kanilang agreed meeting place.
Tumango lang ang kaibigan at ngumiti.
Nagtaka siya.
Shouldn’t she be excited?
Hindi ganito ang ini-expect niyang reaction from her.
Nang mapansin nito ang pagtataka sa mukha niya ay nagbago bigla ang mood nito.
“Long time no see.” Mainit na ngumiti si Sabel.
Ngumiti din si Patrick but confusion was written all over his face.
“Magkakilala kayo?” tanong sa kanila ni Patrick.
“I am her bestfriend.” Banat agad ni Sabel.
Mukhang may gusto pang itanong si Patrick pero inawat na niya ito.
First things first.
“Anyways, may mahalaga sana akong gustong itanong sayo.” Paninimula niya.
Nagseryoso ito.
Tiningnan siya nito. “Ano yun?”
She took a deep breath. Tiningnan niya rin ito. “Kilala mo ba ang exgirlfriend ni Ric?”
“Sino?” Nag-isip ito. “Si Jennifer?”
Nanlamig ang buong katauhan niya. “Bakit ito nakipaghiwalay kay ric?”
He sipped his tea. “Hindi ko din alam.”
He exhaled. “Noong naghiwalay sila ay nasa States na ako.”
“Why?” nag-aalalang tanong nito sa kanya.
She has no plan at all at telling him about her caller pero ang magaling na si Sabel ay kinwento rito ang tungkol sa kanyang caller.
“Are you alright?” alalang-alalang tanong nito sa kanya.
Tumango siya. This is the reason why she never wanted Patrick to know. He was kind. Superlatively kind that he helps anyone who’s in deep shit. And wala siyang balak na makipaglapit pa ulit dito. Not when Ric hates him. She has nothing against her and Patrick being friends but Ric abhors Patrick so much. Hindi nito magugustuhan ang katotohanang nakikipaglapit siya dito. Lalong-lalo na kapag nalaman nitong exboyfriend niya si Patrick. She can just imagine kung paano mag-re-react si Ric. Hindi man nito sinasabi pero napakaseloso nito.
“Do you need my help?” He asked politely.
“No.” She discreetly declined.
She bit her lip.
“I’m sorry. It’s just tha—” that Ric is my boyfriend now.
He cut her off. He feigned a smile. “I understand.”
Their meeting ended. The caller’s info is confirmed to be accurate. So what can she do? Stupidly wait for the caller to call?
She exhaled.
I hate this!
Why is this happening when Ric and she are finally happy?
