“Tell?” John said, feigning (badly) ignorance.
Sherlock raised an eyebrow, and John blushed. John had never been good at the whole lying thing. Or anything, really. He had a strong moral compass, and that was all you could say about him.
Sherlock waited, patiently, until finally he repeated the question. “Do tell, John.”
John looked back at him. “What do you, uh, mean?”
Sherlock didn’t respond, just fixed that piercing gaze on him.
“It’s nothing,” he assured Sherlock. “Just something….” He paused. “I mean…”
Sherlock just waited.
“Nothing.” John repeated.
“Nothing?”
“Nothing.”
“I’m sure. Shall I ask Avery then?”
John blinked. “I, uh…”
“Avery is a very manipulative person,” Sherlock began tirading.  “Whatever she has planned will not end well. She’s very selfish, John, and whatever it is, no matter how ‘fun’ it sounds; it will not turn out any good. She’s - ”
“She thinks we’re a couple!”
“She- what?”
“She wants us to….date.”
Sherlock paused. “Pardon?”
“She wants us to go out! Date! She thinks we’re gay!”
Sherlock frowned. “Why?”
“Don’t ask me! She’s your sister!”
“Hmm.”
“Don’t go ‘hmm’! What are you going to do about it?!”
“What do you mean?”
“Tell her off! Tell her to leave me alone! Something!”
“It wouldn’t achieve anything. She’s a very stubborn woman.”
“Well-”
“Gah!” John said, fed up. “You Holmes are all as bad at each other. Why don’t you leave me alone?!”
And with that he got up and stormed out of the room.
