Emily's POV

Katie and I continued walking but decided to go a different direction than where her footsteps lead. Now that she knew what was in the shed that sat behind their cabin, Katie never wanted to go back there.

"So where are we suppose to go?" I mustered up the courage to ask.

"I don't know. When I ran yesterday I lost my way back to the cabin. These woods are like a maze. A never ending one. "

"How did you find your way back?"

"I didn't mean to. It got late and I was walking so slow. I swear I felt my heart beat slow down. It was snowing hard and I couldn't see a thing. I bumped into the shed. I got inside and passed out."

"So when you said you hid in plain sight....you didn't mean to do that?"

"I was always going to come back for you. If that's what you're getting at." She always knew what I was thinking.

"I thought you died."

"Why would you think that?" Katie almost sounded offended.

"Sara did." I choked up.

"Well...." She began. "We won't."

Her words gave me hope.

I wish I could enjoy this more. I'm finally free. I escaped that house. Will I escape these woods? My heart tried to tell me yes, but logic told me no. Part of me also knew that I wouldn't have successfully got out of that house with Katie and Cole.

I couldn't do it by myself. I tried many times and failed.

Looking to the sky, the sun came down and gave off hardly any warmth. It made the snow shine bright and become slightly blinding to us. Katie and I would need to find shelter before the night falls.

It's beyond freezing out here. When the sun goes down, we'd have nothing to keep us even the tiniest bit warm. These coats were a joke.

Cole's POV

Zac blew off my question about going to get one of our cars. He was beaming straight for the middle of the woods.

"Zac!" I tried to grab his attention.

He was ignoring me.

His legs were fast, his head faster. It kept looking in every possible direction. If I didn't know any better I'd say it was doing circles on his neck.

"What are you going to do if we find her?" I had to run a little to catch up to him.

"When."

"What?" I asked.

"When. When we find her." He corrected me.

"When we find her. What are you going to do? She'll run. We could lose her."

Zac stopped and turned to face me. No words were needed. He unzipped his coat to reveal a gun that sat in his inside pocket.

He was going to shoot her.

Zac didn't waste any time. He kept moving and zipped up his coat along the way.

I took a deep breath and let it out. I could see it in the air. Zac wouldn't have to shoot her if she is already dead. The cold could have definitely killed her by now.

A daunting question kept running through my mind. Were we looking for just Katie? Or Katie and Emily?

----

According to my watch 3 hours has passed and Zac and I had finally made it back to the cabin.

My arms felt numb from the wind that had picked up outside. We looked around all of the surrounding trees near the cabin. If they're still out there and alive, they must have gotten far.
