COLE'S POV

I reached the truck that sat in my way of leaving. I could only hope Emily went around far enough to not let Zac see her.

I crossed my fingers that he was looking at me right now. I opened the truck. The doors were not locked but no one was inside. Where was he?

I walked all the way around the truck and reached a full circle.

"Where is she, you bastard?" Zac moaned.

There he was.

I turned around. A gun met my gaze.

"Where have you been? Waiting for me all this time? I didn't know I had a special place in your heart." I was pushing his buttons. The longer I could keep him here and argue the longer Emily had to get away.

"Shut up!" Zac came closer. "Is she waiting for you to get rid of me? Are you gonna go back and get her from somewhere? Who do you think you are? I lead this fucking group! I'M THE BOSS." He was getting even angrier.

"You could've fooled me." I insulted his leadership skills. "Nothing like this ever happened when I was in charge."

"Yeah, you only killed a girl." I looked into Zac's eyes. I swear for a moment a vision of Faith appeared behind him as he said that.

"Put the gun down." I told Zac.

"Maybe I'll put you down!" He yelled and got closer. The gun now on my forehead. I put my hands up.

"Maybe you should." I said.

Emily's POV

I needed to breathe. I kept running in what was hopefully the right direction.

"I'M THE BOSS!" A voice yelled. It was in the distance. It was Zac.

Don't go check it out. Don't go. I kept telling my mind but my legs walked on their own.

I controlled my breath and my steps. I could see now. Zac's truck sat far away. Two bodies in front of it.

One had a red scarf around the neck. Cole. It was Cole.

"Maybe I'll put you down!" I could hear Zac yelling.

He had a gun pointed at Cole!

What do I do?

I continue. Right? Right.

I swallowed and closed my eyes. I made myself turn around and walked back to where I came from. I started to jog in the direction of what should be my exit. Before I knew it I was there.

A snowy road appeared before me. I dropped to my knees and let the tears touch the snow. I felt it with my hands. It was real. A real road. It was time to find the building Cole was talking about and call 911. I could feel the freedom coming to me.

BANG

A gun shot interrupted my thoughts. I turned back to the woods.

The image of Zac holding up a gun to Cole's head displayed in my mind.

Did Zac...pull the trigger? Was Cole...dead?

I stopped up and ran as fast as I could down the road until I found a frozen over lake. I needed to walk across it to reach the building that I'm sure was close by.

I stepped one foot at a time hearing a crack each time. My heart was fast, my feet were slow.

I made it to the other side. Thank God. I stumbled through the bushes that caught me when I jumped from the ice lake to the solid ground.
