- LINE WITHOUT A HOOK
"oh, all my emotions, feel like explosions
when you're around"

when they found a spot, faye saw the confused look on brandon's face. but didn't see the short girl who had been with him earlier, weird. faye just shrugged at him as he returned the gesture before turning on his heel and finding a willing dance partner.

one of vinnie's hands held tight onto the girl's waist as the other clasped into her own. faye found herself feeling too comfortable, again. she wanted nothing more than to rest her head on his shoulder and pretend it was just them for a bit.

"so, what were you gonna say?" she found herself asking to distract the way she swayed with him

"nothing important, but i do want to be your friend." he looked down and smiled

she laughed at the weirdness of their situation, "my friend?"

"yeah. i mean, i'm with selene." he began while noticing the stiffening in faye's body as he let the words slip "but uh, i don't wanna continue like this. i want us to be able to be ... okay with each other." he tried out the words

faye nodded understanding what he meant, she smiled before giving a reassuring "yeah i'd like that"

not long after faye and vinnie came to some-what of an agreement, selene came back with kara unusually close.

faye let go of vinnie as he released his grip as well "oh look! my favorite people bonding!" she teased using the same words selene had earlier

"oh, kara she was helping me- i- uh," selene stumbled over her words

"she needed help fixing her dress and i just so happened to be there." kara recovered

weird. faye thought to herself before vinnie and selene found their way back into each other arms and kara pulled her away.

"i saw you too dancing, you know." kara pointed out

"mhm and i saw you save selene's ass." faye replied as kara scoffed and shrugged the subject off

the rest of the dance was pretty uneventful, kara wanted to stay further from selene than usual and brandon was dancing with whoever seemed fun for the moment (faye didn't mind though).

as the dance began to conclude selene made it known (to anyone worthy of an invitation) that there was a after-party going on at her house.

"do i have to go?" faye whined

"yes! if anyone has to go it's you." selene encouraged

"fine, but i'm spending the night." she concluded "and so is kara!" she tried

"nope, already leaving." faye pouted at those words "sorry, i already got my uber." the shorter girl shrugged before walking away

"well, are we gonna go before everyone's early to your own party?" vinnie asked

everyone nodded in agreement as they went to their original car arrangements.

"so, you and vinnie?" brandon asked once they finally got into the car

"me and him what?"

"what's going on?" he pushed as if it was obvious

faye scoffed and folded her arms, "nothing. he's with my best friend. remember?" she replied slightly annoyed

"ha, okay. sorry for asking then."

FEBUARY 15th, 2021
12:32 am
selene king's home

the party had been taking place for only about an hour, and yet faye has never wanted more than to leave and shrink away.

something about being there didn't feel right, and just to her luck she already promised to stay the night. so, sulking on the stairs that outlook the backyard filled with kids she's seen and knows, but also some complete strangers who might not even go to their school.

"so, why're you pouting?" a voice called as they came into view

vinnie.

"because i can." the girl added unenthusiastically as she took another sip from the cup that's been mostly a decoration in her hand

vinnie made himself comfortable in the empty space that was next to the girl, "don't be such a party pooper."

faye sniffed slightly, only smelling a faint scent of alcohol on him, "you've been drinking?"

"nah, well yeah but i've only had like 2 shots and then i got bored."

faye scoffed, "bored."

"yup. so, why're you sitting here alone? and where's your date?"

"brandon? i don't know ... he's probably somewhere dancing with the hottest person he could find. and well, selene is being the great host she always is. and kara went home, i'm not sure if your drunk mind can remember." faye teased

"whatever," the boy laughed, bumping his shoulder into her own

"you know, this idea," faye tried out the word "to be friends is already going good."

"i'm glad you think so, i don't know i guess i missed you." vinnie shrugged

"missed me?"

"yeah, i mean, even though our time was short ..." he trailed thinking of the correct words "i feel like the time i spent getting to know you made me comfortable with your presence. it felt good to have a genuine connection with someone you know?"

faye turned to look him in his eyes, seeing it was a sincere confession and not some drunken collaboration of words thrown together.

the girl hummed scared to hold eye contact and scared to break it at the same time.

"i get what you mean." she concluded

vinnie wanted nothing more to lean in and give her a simple peck, but he knew he couldn't and he knew how dumb it seems to have missed just being around her when they only shared a slight connection that past summer. but he didn't realize how good it felt to be with her till he was.

"you two are so not good at hiding." a voice startled the two out of their bubble

oh god...
