The Dark Sentinel

In secret, in darkness

He watches from the shadows,

To catch the play of light on her face.

A beacon that draws him away

from the ever-present madness.

His true name is lost to him,

Tormented by the powers that consume him.

A child still, he holds his breath—

Unable to comprehend

This strange sorrow that captured his heart.

He would let everything end,

Plunge the world in his eternal night.

But for the sound of laughter in her voice

He would stay his hand,

Stand his ground.

It was a sin to hope

For what he could not have.

The curse he carried was too great

His only memory of what he had lost

Was the remnant of tears in her eyes.

In secret, in darkness

He watches from the shadows.

He wonders why but for this—

To know that his love is safe

Stills the pain in his heart.
