'I Love You' Isn't Enough

The words 'I love you' fall like rain
But they can't wash away the pain
The hurt they caused, the tears they brought
The damage done, the battles fought

You say those words, so sweet and kind
But they can't erase what's in my mind
The lies, the hurt, the broken trust
The wounds that still feel raw and must

My heart may long to hear those words
But they can't mend what's been disturbed
The love you offer now, it's true
But it's not enough to see me through

For love alone cannot erase
The scars left by your past mistakes
It takes more than just empty words
To heal the wounds and mend the hurt

I need to see the change in you
To know that your love will be true
Actions speak louder than words
And mine are speaking, have you heard?

I want to believe in what you say
But it's hard when you hurt me this way
'I love you' may be what you mean
But it's not enough to wipe the slate clean

So please don't just say those words
And expect my heart to be reassured
Prove to me that your love is real
And maybe then, I'll learn to heal

For now, the words 'I love you' fall
But they can't erase the pain at all
I'll hold on to the hope that someday
Your love will be enough to make me stay.
