It’s been three days since Tori and I found out that the guy in my basement was none other than Austin Mahone. I was going back to school today and couldn’t help but check up on Austin before making breakfast for me and Alejandra. I grabbed another of my new books and headed downstairs to the basement.

“Austin?” I walked down the steps with the book in my hands. I jumped off the last one and looked over at Austin’s corner. He was sitting with his legs against his chest and his arms around them. “Are you okay?”

He didn’t say a word. He slowly stood up and walked over to where I was standing. What was he going to do? God, please don’t let him freak out. Pair of arms wrapped around me, making me snap out of my thoughts. I was taken aback by his actions at first but when I heard him sob I knew there was something wrong.

“Her name is Jessica.” I instantly remembered the article I had read for Tori. He remembered her name. I gently pushed Austin away and grabbed his chin. “What are you doing?”

“Stay still.” I turned his head to found a big wound on the side of his head close to his neck. “They did hit you with something.”

“Really?” I let go of his chin and looked at him.

“Maybe that’s why you forgot some things.” He was about to say something but was cut off by the sounds of footsteps from the stairs.

“Callie?” I shut my eyes and cursed under my breath. I slowly turned around and opened my eyes to see Alejandra standing by the stairs. Her eyes were filled with surprise and confusion. “Who is that?”

“Uh,” I didn’t know what to say. I was going for friend but she wouldn’t believe me. I think it was obvious that this boy was a stranger to her. “Can you come here Ale?”

“No.” I frowned and took a step closer to her.

“Let me explain.” I stood in front of her before kneeling down. “His name is Austin and he’s lost. He’s staying here until I can get him home.”

“Does mommy know?” I sighed and shook my head. “You should tell her Callie.”

“I know. I’m just worried she’s going to make him go. He doesn’t have a place.” My little sister looked behind me, taking a look at Austin before looking at me.

“I won’t tell mommy on one condition.” I nodded. “Does he play dollies?”

“I don’t know. Hold that thought.” I turned my head to look at Austin. He looked scared now that my sister knew about him. Poor kid. “She won’t say anything as long as you play dollies with her.”

“Sure. Why not?” He shrugged. I turned to look at my sister who smiled like she was just given candy.

“You can’t tell mommy, Alejandra.” She nodded as she raised her hand holding out her pinky. “Pinky promise? Really?”

“Do you want me to tell mommy?” I shook my head and linked my pinky with hers. She gave me a smile before heading back upstairs. I stood up and turned to look at Austin.

“She won’t say anything. Although I should’ve told my mom that you are here since the beginning.” Austin was no longer standing up. He had lied down on the quilt I had given him with his eyes shut. “Austin?”

“Yeah?” A chuckle escaped my lips as I made my way over to his so called bed. I bent down and looked at him.

“I’m going upstairs to get some breakfast. I got school today so you can have fun with the chess game and the books.” He opened his eyes and looked at me. “My mom is going to work all day so you can do whatever you want.”

“Okay.” He shut his eyes again and pulled the quilt closer to his body. “Have a nice day Callie.”

“You too Austin.” I sighed and stood up. I headed upstairs and closed the basement door. I knew for a reason that I had to be more careful considering Alejandra had discovered my secret.

After I made breakfast, I left some for mom in the microwave and took Austin’s to the basement. He had fallen back asleep so I left the omelet and toast beside him. I locked the basement again and headed back upstairs. Mom and Alejandra stood by the door waiting for me. I smiled at mom just to cover any weird look I had on my face.

“Alejandra knows?” I nodded as I shut my locker. Tori and I had arrived at school that morning and luckily Kayla didn’t say anything bad about her. Weird, right?

“We have to figure out a way to tell my mom. I don’t want her to find Austin in our basement one day and ground me.” Tori nodded before looking around us. A smirked showed on her face. “What are you thinking?”

“It’s not about telling your mom. You say Austin is always at the basement, right?” I nodded. “Maybe you just have to move him somewhere else.”

“I don’t have another place. My mom never goes to the basement but if she does she’ll see him.” Tori huffed. I shook my head and decided it was time to head to the cafeteria for lunch.

As we walked down the hall I noticed a group of girls surrounding another girl who held her phone out for everyone to see. Tori and I exchanged looks and I couldn’t help but over heard what they were listening to or talking about.

“Austin Mahone is missing?” The girls exchanged looks and went back to looking down at the phone. “Girls, we have to do something.”

“What? Texas is pretty big Brittany.” The girl I now knew the name of looked at her friend in disbelief.

“So? This is Austin Mahone. We find him and we’re all friends forever.” I looked at Tori trying to avoid all those negative thoughts that crossed my mind.

“Please. He’s Austin Mahone. He wouldn’t want to be friends with us.” I grabbed Tori’s arm and dragged her along the hall with me.

This was definitely going to get out of hand.
