Serena's POV

We enter the forest where Lothlorien resides and Gimli tells the hobbits to stay close. Say there was an elf witch here and I growl lightly. "Well, here is one Dwarf she won't ensnare so easily. I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox" he boosts. Bow string tightening as an arrow is notched catches my attention. I growl as elves appear pointing their weapons at us.

"The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark" the leader states stepping forward. I recognize him as the warden Haldir and step forward. "Serena, my you've grown" he smiles patting my head. "You will follow me" he tells the company and I walk. I walk on one side of him as Legolas walks on the other saying we were grateful. "Mae govannen, Legolas Thranduilion" he tells Legolas smiling. (Translation: Welcome Legolas, son of Thranduil.)

Haldir then looks to Ada who walked on my other side. "A, Aragorn in Dúnedain istannen le ammen" he states. (Translation: Oh, Aragorn of the Dúnedain, you are known to us.) Ada bows his head acknowledging Haldir by name.

"So much for the legendary courtesy of the Elves! Speak words we can also understand" Gimli says annoyed.

"We have not had dealings with the Dwarves since the Dark Days" Haldir tells him.

"And you know what this Dwarf says to that?" Gimli asks. "Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul!" he spits out. (Translation: I spit upon your grave!)

Ada grabs Gimli's arm as I say in his (Gimli's) head 'that was not very courteous'.

"You bring great evil here" Haldir states looking at Frodo. "You may go no farther" he adds before walking away. Ada goes to talk to him as I walk over to Frodo. Boromir then walks over as Ada continues to argue with Haldir and I look at him (Boromir) wearily.

"Gandalf's death was not in vain... nor would he have you give up hope" he tells Frodo. "You both carry a heavy burden; Frodo, Serena... don't carry the weight of the dead" he tells us. Haldir returns with Ada telling us to follow him again. I stick by Ada as we climb the stairs, which is easier then the ones were in the mine to climb.

We soon gather under an arch as Haldir steps to one side as my great grandparents (Celeborn and Galadriel) appear. "The Enemy knows you have entered here. What hope you had in secrecy is now gone" Grandfather tells us. "Nine there are here, yet ten there were, set out from Rivendell. Tell me, where is Gandalf?"he asks and Grandmother looks at Ada and I.

"Gandalf the Grey did not pass the borders of this land. He has fallen into shadow" she states. Ada and I nod our heads. Grandfather turns to grandmother asking what becomes of the fellowship now? With Gandalf gone. "The quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the company is true" she explains smiling at Sam. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Go now and rest for you are weary with sorrow and much toil. Tonight you will sleep in peace" she tells us.

"Serena my child, you are in need of a bath" she tells me smiling gently. She tells me to follow a hand maiden who gives me my much needed bath. I return to the fellowship that night as the elves of Lothlorien sing a lament for Gandalf. Ada was sharpening his sword as I laid down beside him and Sam sings a verse about Gandalf's fireworks. I had only seen them once, but they were beautiful.

When Ada heads over to Boromir I stay put to tired to move. I howl along with the elves lament to Gandalf instead. Ada returns and we fall asleep beside each other.

(Next day by the river) still Serena's POV

Cloaks are fasten around the others necks as Grandfather looks at me. "I had your armor polished and placed into one of the boats" he tells me smiling. Before telling the others they head never cloaked outsiders before in the garb of their people. He told them it would shield them from unfriendly eyes. Grandmother then steps forward to give each of us a gift.

"My gift for you, Legolas, is a bow of the Galadhrim, worthy of the skill of our woodland kin" she tells him. Legolas tests the bow string as she gives Pippin and Merry a dagger each. Then gives Sam a piece of elvish rope. "And what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Elves?" she asks Gimli.

"Nothing, except to look upon the Lady of the Galadhrim one last time, for she is more fair than all the jewels beneath the earth" he tells her. But I see him think of something and he whispers his request in her ear. Afterwards grandmother turns to me as a hand maiden steps forward holding a box handing it to her.

"This is for you my child, it will help protect your mind from Saruman and Sauron's influence. Only you or Aragorn will be able to remove it" she explains opening the box to reveal a beautiful black collar with a crystal on it. Grandmother takes it out of the box and puts it around my neck.

'Thank you grandmother, I will treasure it always' I assure her. I hope into mine, Gimli's and Legolas's boat. Meanwhile grandmother goes to talk to Ada as the others get into their boats.

"I have taken my worst wound at this parting, having looked my last upon that which is fairest. Haugh, henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her gift to me" Gimli states. As we all begin to row away.

"What was it?" Legolas and I ask him.

"I asked her for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three" Gimli answers and Legolas smiles gently at him. I smile also, glad they were finally getting along.
