Serena's POV

As we enter the forest we notice a liquid substance on a leaf which I knew was orc blood. But I still let Gimli taste it before he spat it out. "Orc blood" he tells the others and I try not to smile as I shake with suppressed laughter.

"Behave Serena" Ada (Aragorn) tells me and I sober up. "These are strange tracks" he says looking at the ground.

"This forest is very old" Legolas states.

'It is full of memory... and anger' I tell them. Bass voices are heard from the trees, Gimli raises his axe. 'The trees are speaking to each other' I explain trying to decipher what they were saying. Ada tells Gimli to lower his axe and he does so. 'They have feelings my friend' I tell him.

"The Elves began it: waking up the trees, teaching them to speak" Legolas explains.

"Talking trees, what do trees have to talk about?" Gimli asks. "Except the consistency of squirrel droppings" he adds making me let out a wolf chuckle.

"Aragorn, nad no ennas!" Legolas states loudly (translation: Something is out there).

'"Man cenich?"' Father and I ask him (translation: What do you see). Legolas eyes dart to his right and I follow them. He says the white wizard approaches and I crouch preparing to strike. "Do not let him speak, he will put a spell on us" Ada instructs.Aragorn wraps his hand around the hilt of his sword, Gimli tightens his hold on his axe, and Legolas fingers his arrow. The other three turn around to attack, but are blinded by a bright light emanating from the White Wizard. As am I as I close my eyes tightly.

"You are tracking the footsteps of two young Hobbits" a new but familiar voice states.

"Where are they?" Ada asks the person.

"They passed this way, the day before yesterday. They met someone they did not expect. Does that comfort you?" the person asks. I finally recognized the voice of Gandalf and my tail wags happily. But it was still to bright to open my eyes.

'But that light out' I tell him annoyed and he does so chuckling. I shake my head blinking rapidly before running over to Gandalf. Who now has white hair, white robes and a white staff. I sat beside him as Legolas gets down on one knee.

"Forgive me, I mistook you for Saruman" he tells Gandalf.

'He is Saruman' I tell the others for all to hear.

"Rather Saruman as he should have been" Gandalf corrects patting my head.

"You fell" Ada (Aragorn) states.

"Through fire and water" Gandalf states and I start to see what he went through. "From the lowest dungeon to the highest peak, I fought him, the Balrog of Morgoth" he explains. I seeGandalf hold up Glamdring, a flash of lightning strikes it and he thrusts the sword into the Balrog. The Balrog falls from the peak, dead as I come back to the present. "Until at last, I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside.Darkness took me. And I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead, and every day was as long as the life age of the earth. But it was not the end, I felt light in me again.I've been sent back until my task is done" he finishes explaining.

'Gandalf' I say tilting my head at him.

"Gandalf? Oh yes. That's what they used to call me. Gandalf the Grey. That was my name" he says more to himself.

"Gandalf" Gimli says breaking Gandalf from his rambling.

"I am Gandalf the white" Gandalf tells us. "And I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide" he explains. We saw walk through the forest me in the lead with Gandalf and Ada (Aragorn) beside me.

'One stage of your journey is over, another begins' I state.

"War has come to Rohan, we must ride to Edoras with all speed" Gandalf tells us.

'That is no short distance and I have not eaten or drank anything in four days' I tell him.

"We hear of trouble in Rohan, it goes ill with the king" Ada tells Gandalf.

"Yes, and it will not be easily cured" Gandalf tells us. "Especially with your weaken state Serena" he adds.

"There is some food in one of the saddle bags and we have a water skin full of water" Legolas explains.

"Are we to leave those poor hobbits here in this horrid, dark, dank tree-infested..." Gimli starts to say. But the tree rumble and he stops talking. "I mean charming, quite charming forest" he corrects himself.

"It was more than mere chance that brought Merry and Pippin to Fangorn. A great power has been sleeping here for many long years. The coming of Merry and Pippin will be like the falling of small stones that starts an avalanche in the mountains" Gandalf states.

"In one thing you have not changed, dear friend" Ada (Aragorn) tells Gandalf.

'You still speak in riddles' I finish and we all laugh.

"A thing is about to happen here that has not happened since the Elder Days. The Ents are going to wake up and find that they are strong" Gandalf explains.

"Strong? Oh, that's good" Gimli states.

"So stop your fretting Master Dwarf. Merry and Pippin are quite safe. In fact, they are far safer than you are about to be" Gandalf assures him.

"This new Gandalf's more grumpy than the old one" Gimli grumbles making Legolas and I chuckle. Outside the forest, Gandalf whistles piercingly making me cover my ears. An answering neigh is heard and a white horse appears from the plain.

'Give me more warning next time Gandalf' I say rubbing my sensitive ears as the horse stops in front of Gandalf.

"Shadowfax; he's the lord of all horses, and has been my friend through many dangers" Gandalf tells us as he pats the horse. Legolas got out the food for me and a bowl for the water. After I had some of the elf bread and the water I was ready to go. The other four mount the three horses and we run over the plains towards Edoras.
