"I need to talk to you" Irene stopped Mitch
"About?" Mitch asked
"I'm gonna send Lainey to a safe hotel. With 2 of my men" she told him
His brows furrowed "Why?" He asked
"Because she could be a liability" Irene replied
Mitch thought back to last night when she tried to kiss him. Even if she did miss Noah, she wouldn't dare to try and save him.. or so he hoped.
"It's just you on this. Lainey will be sent somewhere safe" Irene told him
"Why can't she just come with me?" Mitch asked
"Because it's too personal for her." Irene told him "I don't need her messing things up"
"don't make me tell you twice rapp. You are going and she's not.. final" she ordered
"Okay" he nodded begrudgingly

Lainey flailed her hands in the air "A hotel are you serious!" Lainey yelled as
Lainey stood in disbelief of the news she was just told. She would be hidden away like some secret, when she could help the most. She knew Noah better then anyone in this room and they needed her.
She swiped her tongue across her bottom lip and parted her lips to argue "If you haven't noticed, he has people to find me and they have on two occasions" she pointed out
"Two of my men will be guarding your door at all times" Irene explained
"I thought you needed me?" Lainey asked
"We have the burner phone, he will leave a voicemail we will find out where he is, we will inform you when this is over" she explained to Lainey.
"Great" Lainey scoffed
"Don't try and do anything either" Irene ordered, she knew the type like Lainey all too well, once they are out of sight they do anything they can if it meant not following direct orders
"Oh no" Lainey shook her head. "you may be his boss. But you're not mine" she referenced to Mitch who was in another room, listening closely
"You are right" Irene nodded "but I am part of the cia and if I have to lock you in a cell to keep you safe I will" she warmed her.
"Alright" Lainey backed off "I'm gonna grab my bag from the other room" she told Irene
Lainey walked into the kitchen where Mitch stood. He was stood leaned against the sink with a coffee in his hand acting as if he wasn't just listening.
Lainey felt the atmosphere become heavier as she remembered that she had previously tried to kiss him. "I eh.. I have to leave" she told him
"Yeah Irene already told me" he nodded
"Why can't you come?" She asked
Mitch sighed "they need me here, but I promise I'm gonna find him" he reassured
"They said they'd "call when it's over"" she mocked
She scoffed "after all this and I get call when I go home"
"Yeah, it's not exactly what I thought would happen either" Mitch agreed. If he was being completely honest.. he didn't wanna see Lainey go
"Mitch" Lainey spoke his name. He looked at her and she smiled a little and shook her head "I eh.. I forgot what I was Gonna say" she chuckled a little at the end
"No worries"
"So what are you gonna do when this over?" She asked
"Probably get about a week break before I get assigned somewhere else."he told her
"You?" He asked in return
Lainey sighed "I'm thinking I start living again, get a job maybe move out of that house, maybe even... date" she explained. She really did wanna start living again, she spent 2 years in captivity of her own mind and the last week had shown her what living was. The adrenaline, the excitement. The whole experience.
"Oh yeah?" He asked
"Yeah. I mean it may sound absolutely crazy but the last week made me feel so alive" she admitted "just the feeling of being out in the world again"
She exhaled "Oh god I sound crazy"
"Not at all" he shook his head
"Look.. I wanna apologize for last night" Lainey mentioned the elephant in the room "I had a nightmare and I just wanted to work off some steam" she explained "I don't know what I was thinking when I kissed you" she shook her head
Mitch nodded in response. He had thought about it all night and the more he the thought about it the more he wanted to relive it. He would admit a week ago he didn't think he had the patience for this case, but now he didn't wanna see Lainey leave.
Lainey didn't know what to feel. She was so emotionally all over the place, her husband was alive and she just kissed someone who was hired to babysit her.
"I guess this is it" Lainey sighed
"You'll be glad to be rid of me" she joked
"yeah" he chuckled
He sighed "Sorry, I'm not good at goodbyes"
Lainey gasped "What... are you gonna miss me?" She teased
"Yeah like a hangover" he joked
"Hey, I'm a delight" she defended herself "I better be your favorite case rapp, or I will be deeply defended"
He let out a breath and pondered her thought "I mean.. you're definitely memorable"
Lainey scoffed with a smile. She rolled her eyes and shook her head "well then. With that pleasant goodbye I'll be on my way" she picked up her bag from the floor "Take care Mitchell..." she grinned
Mitch raised his brows "and how did you figure that out ?" She asked
"I have my ways" she responded. "Bye" she smiled and with that she walked out of the kitchen and set on her way to a normal life again.
Mitch stood in the empty room wondering what he would do now. He wanted to stop her from leaving but he couldn't risk his job....
