xcvi. and so i go on and on and on

32 13 4

And I wish I could see,
the stars in bold;
I wish I could find,
the earth in my hold;
I wish I could nurture,
this sense of satisfaction;
I wish I could drink from,
this victory of action.
I wish I could savor,
the ode of these desires;
I wish I could abstain,
from this feeling that conspires.
I wish I could pave,
my way to this beloved haven;
I wish I could save,
her from the claws of this maven.
But above all-- I wish I could find,
the reason for all my writing,
I wish I could find,
the reason for all this rhyming.
