Chaper 10

It's a few days later, and Finn wants to take me to his office. And put braces on me. And I'm hiding in Ty's room. Nobody is home, except for me, Tyler and Finn. I don't know where Ty is, but I'm hoping he isn't paying attention to Finn trying to find me. I can hear him yelling my name, but I'm not coming out of Ty's room. I heard him walk closer to the room, and open the door. He looked around the room, and didn't see me. He sighed, before pulling out his phone. I relaxed, but then my phone rang. I jumped, and Finn saw where I was hiding. "Cam, c'mon. Let's go." He said, walking closer to me, and I screamed. I backing into a corner, and he kept getting closer. Then Ty came into his room, and saw me crying in the corner, and ran over to me. "Finn what did you do to her?" He yelled at him, picking me up and holding me close. "She has an appointment Tyler." Finn said, reaching out to take me from Ty. "Finn you have to give her time." Ty said. "Can't you see she's terrified?" Finn groaned. "See, you don't get it. If I don't force her, she won't do it." Finn said, frustrated. Tyler put me down, and hugged me. "I don't think she should keep seeing you Finn." Tyler said. "If you can't treat her like a normal patient, I don't think you should treat her." Ty said. "I am treating her just fine." Finn said, and Ty shook his head. "You wouldn't force a patient to do anything, right?" Ty said. I nodded in agreement. Finn sighed. "I have a suggestion." Finn said. "I'll take your expander out today, and then we can talk, OK?" Ty looked at me, and I nodded hesitantly. "Let's go then." Finn said, walking out the door and downstairs. Ty picked me up and followed him, out the door and to his car. He put me in the back seat, before sitting up front. Finn drove to the office silently, and got out of the car. Ty got out, and opened the door to the backseat, pulling me out and picking me up again. He carried me into the exam room, where Finn was waiting. He put me down, and nudged me towards the chair, but I didn't move. "Cam, just sit in the chair. I promise I'll be super gentle." Finn said, and I sat down in the chair hesitantly. Ty sat beside me, and I grabbed his hand. Finn tilted the chair back. He put on gloves, and a mask, and I shut my eyes. "Cam can you open for me?" Finn asked, and I hesitated. "I'm just gonna look first Cam." He said, and I sighed, before opening my mouth a little. Finn smiled, and took a quick look. "Looks good Cam. I'm just gonna take your expander out, and then you can stop wearing the retainer, alright?" He said, and I nodded. "Alright Cam. First I'm gonna loosen up the glue, and then I'm gonna take the expander out. Any questions?" "Will it hurt?" I asked. "Well, the part where I have to take it out might hurt a little, but not too much." Finn said. I groaned, and Finn chuckled. "Alright Cam. Open." He said. I opened my mouth, and he grabbed something that looked like a drill. My eyes widened, and Finn shook his head. "It's just for the glue Cam." He said. "It won't hurt." He started to drill the glue, and a minute later, he stopped. "Alright Cam. I'm just gonna pull it out now. Let me know it it hurts, alright?" Finn said. I nodded, and opened my mouth. Finn did his thing, and it hurt. I let out a whine, and he stopped. "I know Cam. I'm almost done." Finn said. "Just one more minute. Open." He said, and I opened my mouth. The next 30 seconds hurt the most, and I was almost in tears. Then, Finn got it out. I closed my mouth, and leaned into Ty. He rubbed my back, and calmed me down. "It's over Cam." He whispered to me. He pulled me so that I was facing Finn, and sat up. "Let's talk now, Cam." Finn said, looking at me. I looked at him, and shuffled around in Ty's arms. "Cam, from what I've seen, you definitely need braces." He said. "I don't want you to do it." I mumbled. Finn sighed. "Cam I don't know what you want me to do. Every other orthodontist will say you need braces too." Finn said. "No I don't." I mumbled into Ty. "Hey, Cam. It'll be OK." Ty said. "How about this? I can take you to Anton, and we can see what he says about braces, alright?" Ty said. I nodded. "Ty you gotta take her soon. The longer it is before she gets braces or anything, the more her mouth will move, and the expander would have been for nothing." Finn warned. Ty nodded. "I'll call him and see when he's available. Ty said, standing up and putting me back on the chair. I looked at him with wild eyes, but he didn't notice. I looked at Finn, and he chuckled. "I just gotta clean the glue off your teeth Cam. You won't even feel it." He said. I hesitated, and he spoke. "Cam if I use a mouth prop and you stay really still, I can hold your hand." He said, and I nodded. "OK Cam, but you have to stay really still." He said, and I nodded. "Great Cam. And open." I opened my mouth, and he placed the mouth prop in my mouth, keeping my mouth open and my cheeks out of the way. He put the suction tube in my mouth, bending it so that it would stay in place. "Alright Cam. I'm ready to start if you are." Finn said, and I put my hand out to be held. He held my hand, and started drilling the glue off my teeth. After what felt like forever, he finished, and he took the mouth prop out of my mouth. I sat up, and went out to the hall, where Ty was on his phone. A few seconds later, he hung up, and turned to face me with a smile. "All done?" He asked, and I nodded. We sat in the waiting room, waiting for Finn. A little while later, Finn came out, and we went out to the car. "Ty when is she going to see Anton?" Finn asked. I looked at him, and he had a sheepish look on his face. "Well... The thing is..." He trailed off. "What?" I said. "He's only free today." Ty said, and I stared at him. "No! Ty, please don't make me!" I whined. "I'm sorry Cam. He wasn't available for another week, and we don't want that expander to go to waste, do we?" He said, and I shook my head. "He said he's free after lunch, so we'll go see him then, alright?" Ty said. I groaned, and nodded. Finn drove us home, and we ate lunch. I was laying on the couch, playing on my phone, and Ty came and sat down beside me. "You'll be fine Cam." He said, pulling me onto his lap. I snuggled into him, and he rubbed my back. "You've met him  before. You know he's super nice, and I trust him. He's my regular dentist, Cam." He said, looking at me. "You trust me right?" He asked, and I nodded. "And I trust Anton." He said, and I sighed. "I don't like dentist people." I mumbled. "I know you don't Cam, but they are all nice people. They just want to help." He said, and I shrugged. "Hey, you've met Anton before. You know he's a good guy, and he's sick at hockey. Just try and trust him Cam." He said, and I nodded reluctantly. We watched TV for about half an hour, before it was time to go see Anton. Ty carried me out to the car, and put me in the front seat, before going around to the other side and getting in. He drove to Anton's office, and lead me up to his floor. He spoke to the receptionist for a minute, before leading me down a hallway. I stopped walking before we even got to the room. I was too scared. Ty looked back at me. "Cameron. Look at me. You will be fine." He said seriously. I reluctantly walked forwards, and followed Ty to the exam room. The door was open, and Ty walked in, bringing me with him. Anton was sitting on a stool, looking professional. He looked at me, and I took a step back. "Hey Cam. Hey Ty." He said with a friendly smile. "Hey Anton. How are you doing?" Ty said, giving Anton a hug. "Not too bad, Cam what happened to your leg?" Anton said, looking at me. I shied away from him, and Ty chuckled. "She fell down the stairs, and tore some ligaments in her knee. She had surgery about two weeks ago." He said. "Aw man. That sucks Cam." Anton said with a sad smile. I nodded in acknowledgment, and Anton chuckled. "So, you guys are here to see if Cam need braces, correct?" Anton said. Ty nodded. "Finn says she definitely needs them, but if there's a way she doesn't then that's great." Ty said, and Anton nodded. "I can do that." Anton said. "First I'm just gonna take an X-ray, and then I'll take a look, is that alright Cam?" Anton asked, and I nodded shyly. "Alright then, Ty you can stay here, Cam follow me. This should only take a minute or two." He said, walking out of the room. I followed him, and he lead me over to a big machine. "Alrighty Cam. This part is super easy. All you gotta do is stand here, and bite down on this stick. The machine will move around you, but don't move." He instructed me, and I nodded. He set up the stick, and got me to bite down on the stick. He left the room, and the thing started to move around my head. A minute later, Anton came back and took the stick, and threw it out. I followed him back to the exam room, and sat beside Ty. Anton pulled up the X-ray on his computer, and looked at it for a minute. Then, he put on gloves and a mask. "OK Cam. Now I just need to take a quick peek, alright?" He said, and I shook my head. Ty nudged me. "Cam I promise it won't hurt. You'll barely feel anything, just some touching." Anton said, and I sighed, before going over and sitting in the chair. Anton grinned, and tilted the chair back. He handed me a remote, and turned the light on. "The office has cable if you want Cam." He said. "There's Sportsnet and  TSN if you want." I nodded, putting on Sportsnet. "Cam I'm going to start now." He said. "First I'm just going to feel around your jaw, so just relax for me." He said gently. He felt around my jaw, asking me to open a few times. "Great job Cam." He said. "Now I'm just gonna look. After that I'll just take a few measurements, alright?" He said. I nodded. "Alright Cam, open." He said. I opened my mouth, and Anton started looking. He used a mirror, looking everywhere. "Bite down Cam?" He said. I complied, and bit down. A few minutes later, Anton finished his exam, and sat the chair up. I got up and stood next to Ty, and Anton looked at my X-ray again. "Well Cam," He said. "Unfortunately you do need braces."
