They were all wondering, he knew they were. Why would the government have them do therapy?

It was not that he had intentionally taken a look at their thoughts, that he'd looked their minds over as if they were papers needed to get graded. He had not scrutinized them.

But how could he avoid hearing their thoughts when they were as loud as shouts around him? He didn't have to do anything except for looking at them and he knew them as well as a family member of theirs would.

Not that he had to worry about ever getting judged by them though. He had intentionally left the telepathy part out when telling them about his abilities. And no one could really blame him for doing that. People do tend to get uncomfortable around mind readers.
