The jump from 20 to 35 mm might not seem like a whole lot, but when the weapon systems in question were decades apart from each other in terms of development, then you're seeing some serious changes.

The Oerlikon autocannons can use new airburst fragmentation and practice rounds (don't know how that last one's helpful) on top of existing munitions, and another fancy shell type that he can't be bothered to remember.

But on top of all that, these weapon systems come with one of the greatest inventions in human history ever developed for warfare.

Radar.

Both quad flaks were replaced with Flakpanzer Gepard turrets, which have their twin 35 mm's attached to either side, with a spinning radar dish at the rear but minus the smoke grenade launchers.

These Gepard turrets have slightly altered the amount of eyes he now has, from the AA mounts providing 4 eyes (i.e the gun sight and open top view from both emplacements) to 2 eyes, both of which are those green radar screens with the line going back and forth.

Complete with general search, targeting, and tracking functions with a radar range of 15 km (~9.3 mi) and a gun range of roughly 5 km (~3.1 mi), as well as a laser rangefinder, this heavily simplifies aiming from manual to point and click.

Since each turret is its own targeting computer for that specific turret only, all he has to do is take a look at the radar screens, pick a target to lock, and let the guns do the rest.

Of course, manually aiming is still an option as the targeting software provides him with the correct leads, elevation, and the distance data via the rangefinder.

Even though he can no longer see the outside world through the perspective of these AA turrets, he doesn't need to. Everything is provided digitally, and all he has to do is keep his eyes on the screens.

Another factor that helps improve the accuracy of manual aim is the slower fire rate of 550 rounds per minute, per barrel, at half the original barrel count from 8.
