after visiting sets of music videos with her brother a handful of times, 13 year-old yuri still wasn't used to it. everything seemed so hectic yet so organised. they would be rushing for costume changes, makeup touch-ups. there would be set and wardrobe malfunctions, but someone had a solution for every problem.

she watched from the side like she always did, fascinated by how her brother fit stories into three minute long videos while also showcasing the singing and dancing performances of these artists.

they weren't big artists he was directing for since he was still considered a rookie in the field, but that didn't taint his passion for his career.

through all of this, yuri found herself being more and more intrigued in the world of k-pop.

she'd always loved performing, from doing ballet on stage at a young age to doing hip-hop and freestyle classes— she had always loved being on stage.

she had already managed to pick up a lot of the choreography for this shoot in her head and was definitely going to go home and try it out herself, maybe make some minor changes.

it looked like something had gone wrong when she saw her brother talking on the phone with someone, looking frustrated. he said something and then hung up, shaking his head.

"steph," he walked over to her in a hurry, "i need you to fill in for one of the backup dancers. she just cancelled last minute and we don't have anyone else to replace her in such short notice."

"ok wait, calm down," she said, "i can't just fill in like that. i'm just a kid, not a professional dancer and even if i was, i don't even know the dance."

"you've been doing dance your entire life, i'd consider you a professional. you're a quick learner too," he said, "we need a back up. i'll get one of the dancers to teach you. please steph."

she looked around for a moment before looking at her brother's face again. she groaned, snatching the costume from him, "fine, i'll do it. but you're buying me ice cream after this."

"of course, anything for my amazing sister who i love so very much," he nodded, pushing her towards the bathroom so that she could change, "now go."

yuri was out of breath by the time the shoot ended, but adrenaline pumped through her from all the dancing

yuri was out of breath by the time the shoot ended, but adrenaline pumped through her from all the dancing. she hadn't danced properly in a month due to being in korea for the summer, away from the dance studio in canada. she hadn't realised how much she had missed the feeling until just then.

she took the jacket off, placing it carefully on a chair before she wiped the sweat off her face.

"excuse me?"

yuri turned around and saw an older woman, "um hi?"

"hello," she greeted, a smile on her face, "my name is han chayoung. i saw you dancing earlier and you were very good."

"thank you," she bowed her head in appreciation, "nice to meet you. i'm ste— yuri."

"yes miss kim, i know. i already talked to your brother. are you a foreigner?" she asked, "you have a slight accent."

"do i?" yuri furrowed her brows, "i live in canada but i didn't think i had an accent."

"it's not very noticeable i promise," she said, "i just noticed because it's my job to notice little things about people. i work for bighit entertainment and i scout out talent which is actually why i came over to you. i was wondering if you would like to come and audition for our company?"

"audition?" yuri asked, "for what exactly? as a dancer?"

"well partially yes," the lady said, "but i wanted you to audition for becoming an idol."

"what?"

"i think you have the right charm, look and skill to be the next big star," she said, "with the help of our company, you could reach your fullest potential."

"i'm not sure being an idol is for me," yuri said, suddenly very nervous and flustered, "i'm not very good at singing or rapping or anything other than dancing. i don't even live in korea."

"still, i think you should audition," she replied, "i see potential in you. just call me if you want to audition, alright?"

she held forward a business card and yuri reluctantly took it, pocketing it after she looked it over. "i'll think about it."
