Razor

It had been three weeks since Blaze and I started ignoring each other. That's what hurt the most, just when things were so good, they ended so badly. Suddenly, the person I thought I knew didn't look at me in the same way anymore, and it killed me inside since I knew it was my fault.

Little did I know that gym class would be the determining factor of our fate.

The unit we were in was soccer, and we had a lot of soccer players in our class. Blaze and I were fairly good and almost always played on opposite teams, which was good because we didn't have to talk to each other at all.

I thought today would be like any other day, but in a matter of seconds everything went wrong. It was towards the middle of gym class when my team had the ball. She ran over and tried to steal it, but she was tripped and her foot was planted on top of the ball while it rolled, causing her to fall and her ankle to twist.

I was halfway across the gym when I saw it happen, but I was the first one by her side. I didn't even think, it was just instinct to go and help her since she was the girl I really liked, maybe even loved, and her safety was important to me.

The whistle blew to signal the end of game play, and our gym teacher was by Blaze's side too. She insisted she was fine and wasn't happy about me helping her up, and the first thing she did when she was upright was push me away. I was lucky that I didn't move, because the second she put weight on her foot, she stumbled. I caught her before I even knew I caught her.

"Blaze, come on. You're not fine."

"Please don't touch me, I really am fine."

"You can't stand on your foot, Blaze. Let Razor take you to the nurse's office." The gym teacher instructed. She deeply sighed, and I picked her up. She unwillingly put her arms around my neck so she wouldn't fall, even though I held her tightly. I wouldn't let her fall.

I felt like my heart was going to jump right out of my chest. We hadn't been this close in so long, it was a little weird. Especially because she and Austin never really became a thing, so the three of us were just stuck in a rut and none of us knew what the right thing to do was. Who started talking first? What could be done to make things less awkward?

"Blaze, can we talk?" I asked as I was carrying her to the nurse's office.

"I didn't think there was anything to talk about." She answered. My heart sank, even though I saw this coming from a mile away.

"I just want to know if you still want to be in a relationship with me, or if you're going to go with Austin. I know this is abrupt, but I've been losing sleep lately and it would be nice to know what's going on in your head." I ranted as I walked. I felt her sliding down, so I adjusted her in my arms.

"Honestly, Razor, I don't know. At this point, I don't have feelings for either of you."

"I know this sounds pathetic, but I still have feelings for you."

"Okay, and?"

"Nevermind. It's whatever." I said, stopping the conversation right there. I turned into the nurse's office, explained what happened and was soon in one of the small rooms off the main office with a roll of tape and prewrap as the nurse was getting a bag of ice together.

"Razor, I can tape up my own ankle."

"I know you can, but I've done this more times than you and I need this so I can say that I was able to help you and not hurt you."

"Fine." She responded, putting her ankle on my lap. I took off her sneaker and sock before I wrapped her ankle with prewrap first and then I put a layer of athletic tape on it.

The nurse came back with the bag of ice and I took it and put it on her ankle. She laid back and stared at the ceiling, avoiding eye contact with me. I could understand why.

After about fifteen minutes of her having the ice bag on her ankle, she sat up and grabbed her sock and shoe. She put them back on and put both her feet on the floor, and I stood next to her to make sure she didn't fall again. She was limping, but she could put weight on her ankle, which was quite the improvement from a little while ago.

"Hey, Blaze," I said without thinking. She turned to me and raised an eyebrow.

"I know you don't owe me anything and you have no reason to do this, but can you just kiss me?"

"Why would I do that?"

"I just really need to know that you don't feel anything, because I can't go on living like this- wondering what if. If you feel something and don't want to be a relationship, I understand. If you don't feel anything, I understand. I just need to know-" I explained, but she cut me off.

She wrapped one arm around my shoulders and placed her other hand on that same shoulder before standing on her one good foot to gently press her lips to mine. I was a little taken aback, but I put my left hand on the small of her back and kissed her in return.

The kiss only lasted for a moment, but it was that moment's feeling I had come to miss.

When she pulled away, she pressed her lips together and looked down at the floor before looking up at me. I know I felt something, I always felt something, but her expression was hard to read and I wasn't sure what she felt.

Some silence passed as she looked into my eyes. My mouth was seemingly disconnected from my brain, and I blurted out what I was thinking.

"So, did you feel anything?"

"Yeah, Razor. I felt something." She responded with a hint of a smile. She broke the eye contact we had kept with each other and diverted her gaze for all but a second until I kept asking questions.

"Something good?" I asked. I didn't really want to know the answer, since her answer would mean the world and change everything either for the better or for worse, and I hadn't had time to plan out how I was going to react.

Granted you can't think of everything, but I had to be at least a little bit emotionally prepared for what was about to hit me. I wanted to know how I was going to protect myself and what line of defense I needed to build up for myself.

Before I could think any further, she answered my question and then walked out of the nurse's office to head back to gym class. I was left stuck then wondering what it all meant and what the hell I was going to do to approach this.

"Yeah."
