(recap)

I shook my head and without saying another word left before I jumped him. I could still feel the urge to kiss him again, I heard him shout out,

“By the way I won the deal. See you tomorrow Sunshine.”

I groaned and continued walking towards my room. That’s just freakin’ brilliant!

Chapter 19

I woke with a start, my mother’s voice echoing from a dream I just had. Same dream, different victim. Every night the same thing, the bloody field, the red glowing eyes of the hellhounds, the continuous screams of the dead, the forgotten and the lost. Always waking with the scream, the terrified screams. I laid back down on my bed and sighed as I stared up at the ceiling for a little while just trying to think of anything but the dream. I turned to look at Sammy’s digital clock and squinted at the bright light, it said seven am, at least I woke up closer to my actual alarm time. Most of last night I was trying to figure out how I was going to dodge Hunter and his lessons and then I started thinking about my remaining punishment days. This was my last week of solitary labor, I was both saddened and happy at the idea, sad because I wouldn’t have all that free time to hunt for my mother, happy because I would be with my friends. This was my last week to search on my own and I’m going to make it count. Today I’m going to meet Kayla in her room, she said she has to speak with me urgently, wonder what it is, best not to get my hopes up. I couldn’t wait to see her, I was to head off to her room after classes ended. In the mean time I was to head off to my favorite torturer, Mr. Jeffrey to get my daily chore.

I made my way to Mr. Jeffrey’s office and sat in the usual waiting room, the secretary was in her usual spot typing away. By now I was a regular in here and I knew the secretary well, seen as I was in here more than any student.

“Morning Mary.”

“Morning Snow, you sleep well?” She asked without looking up. She knew about my ...sleeping problems, I often came up here to get a sleeping pill when it got really bad. She didn’t really know what my dreams where about but then it never really mattered with Mary.

“Same as any night.” She looked up for the first time from her computer and looked at me, concern showing all over her withered face.

“Poor dear, I wish there was something I could do. You sure you don’t want to see the school-“

“NO, I mean no thank you Mary, but I don’t want to be talking to a stranger about my problems. I can handle it.”

“As you wish dear, just know that I’m here for you.” She said with a warm smile and continued typing. It wasn’t long when Mr. Jeffrey left his office talking to one of the guards. They looked to be in a serious conversation, they didn’t even notice me until they were practically right on top of me. The guard which looked to be a high rank officer or something, had a scar on the side of his neck, which looked like it could have been fatal. He had a permanent scowl on his face and the darkest eyes I had ever seen. Mr. Jeffrey turned to me and introduced me to the guard.
