Chapter 8

I hadn't seen sand in years. The cool lake water touches my feet and I get shivers.

By now I've been here for about five days, and since then I've been getting my caramel skin back, I've gained weight and I'm not as weak or tired all the time.

I wore my red bikini and my bikini dress over top. I took off my sandals when I put my stuff down and now I'm dipping my toes in the water.

Without some of the pack here there was a lot of people at the beach. But with the pack, there's like thousands.

We had went to a little more private spot at the end of the beach so I we would get dirty looks for playing music, or getting in trouble for cursing and making messes.

Were dogs, what are we going to do?

Layla walks up behind me, "want to take a dip?" I shook my head no. I couldn't swim and I didn't want to take off the bikini dress because that's the only thing covering my scars.

I mean, I had scars all over my body, but the worst ones were on my back.

Cali walked over, "why don't you want to come swimming with us?" I made a swimming motion then shook my head.

"You cant swim?" Layla looked at me with confusion and I nodded my head.

"Hey Gabriel, Dawn cant swim!" Cali screamed over to him.

Next thing I know Cali is taking my bikini dress off of me while Gabe held me and I was carried to the water.

I clenched on hard to Gabriel, although he didn't seem to mind. I was shaking.

He held me in a bridal hold and went into the water to about his waist, so for me it would be just under my breasts.

He lightly sets me in, my back first and I jump and the sudden coolness. "It's okay," he chuckled.

I trusted him, I put one foot in, then the next. I shivered, goose bumps showing up on my skin, I stand close to Gabe so he would give me warmth.

He chuckles, "lay on your stomach," I shake my head no. I know I'm going to drown if I do that! I'm not stupid!

"I have my arm out, I'll catch you," he shows me his arm in the water, I lay on my stomach feeling his warm arm on my chest.

"Paddle," he ordered and I listened.

Soon enough I was swimming way deeper then I possibly could stand up in. And Layla, Cali, Leo and Gabe were all with me.

It was pretty fun until I got hungry.

Completely forgetting about my scars and covering up I leave the water with Cali and Layla at my sides and Gabe following behind.

And that's when he sees them.

Within one step, Layla and Cali are gone and Gabriel is standing infront of me holding a towel asking if he could talk to me in private.

I follow him to the car and he turns on the radio so no one can hear.

"Those scars. On your back."

I become pale.

He seen them. Great.

"How did you get them? They're so deep."

I look at my fidgeting hands, "tell me," he growled.

Why I mouthed.

"Just tell me Dawn," he growled again. Anger flowing through him, "damnit." He cursed loudly. I flinch.

He takes a breath, "I'm sorry Dawn, it just really upsets me when I see that you're broken," he looks down at himself, he was upset.

"Who did it to you?" He looks at me sorrowfully, his black hair shining from the water, his eyes depressed.

I look at him and mouth my father.

He starts to get angry again when all of a sudden I put my hand on his, he looks at me almost surprised.

I look at him almost to say, calm down, I am okay.

He sighs defeated. Looking at me he says, "do you want me to do anything about it," I shook my head no.

Yes, they ruined seven years of my life. But if they hadn't I wouldn't be here today.

He smiles at me, "okay," he grabs ahold of my hand and squeezes it lightly. I smile back at him, my stomach growling he chuckles.

We get out of the car and walk back to  where everyone was, on our way back Gabe caresses my hand, then puts his in it.

It seemed so natural to hold hands with him. He let's go and quickly grabbed my bikini dress and gave it to me.

I put it on without a fight and smiled at him.

"Do you want a hamburger?" He asks me, I shake my head yes, he walks up the the grill off the beach itself.

I walk over to Leo and Layla, they looked to be having a nice conversation as Cali walked up to Gabriel.

"You're telling me that one time when you were drunk with your friends in highschool you thought you were a snake and combat crawled to a awkward doorway to sleep?"

"Yes!" Leo said, I started laughing.

"Have you ever drank alcohol before Dawn?" Layla asks me, I shook my head no. Either I was to young or in a cellar soo...

"We gotta have a party some time," Leo winks as he nudges me with his elbow.

Then Gabe walks over to us giving Leo a stone cold look. Mind speaking. Again.

Gabe brought over a hamburger for me and himself. I dance in my spot as he hands it to me. I love food.

Looking at it my stomach growls and I chuckle taking a bite from the hamburger.
