Kai's pov

I could feel my heart pounding

Not because I just stood up to my father for the first time in my life

Or the fact that I announced my marriage to a nurse from an obscure village who has challenged me more times than I can count and probably has no idea of the customs we have in the castle.

But because I am now holding luna's sleeping body

Her head now rested against my chest

I could feel her stomach expand as she took deep breaths

Despite her dark completion, I could tell a bruise would quickly form around her neck due to hand imprints that were still visible

I tried to ignore the feeling of anger in my chest

My father had now gone too far

But then I realized he hasn't done anything too different than what he has done before

The number of bodies I have seen torn apart in that arena and I have never batted an eye

I never felt such strong emotion like I had felt right now

My eyes drifted to the girl in my arms

Her silver hair was pulled back into cornrows

Her eyes were closed and her check was squished against me

Her lips were slightly parted so I could hear her light snores

I almost started to laugh at the fact that she was fighting for her life minutes ago

I pulled my eyes away from this girl who for some reason is always asleep or fighting around me and continued walking up the stairs.

I continued down this familiar hallway and thought of a way I could get luna out of this mess and safely away from the castle

However, if we are caught lying to the monarchy

She would be executed immediately and I have no idea how the king would want to hurt me

Felt panic rise within me

My breaths became shallow and I felt the heart racing I quickly made my way into my bedroom before it happens again.

Sometimes on really hard nights, I have these attacks

I feel my throat close up and my body shakes and I can't do anything about it

Most nights I lock myself in my room and figure it out

I leaned against the door and tried to catch my breath

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a figure sitting on my bed

Princess lulia rested on my bed wearing a dark blue dress with golden flakes all over. It resembled the star above.

She had her hair pulled back in a bun

Her face was wet with tears as she looked up at me

" You said you'd never marry" she spoke her voice steady

She slowly stood up from the bed

" You told me that you would never marry anyone!" she now stood there screaming I looked down to see if luna was still sleeping

I quickly marched past lulia and towards the bed

I pulled up the covers and placed her body underneath them
