Chapter 13: Girlfriend

Friday has finally come, and next week we have no school due to Thanksgiving. I closed my locker, and started walking to my last class of the day, US history, with Alexis and Emma.

"So, are you excited?" Alexis questioned me.

  "For what?" I asked, confused.

"On Friday... Black Friday. Literally seven days from now. We're going to 10th street, correct?"

The thought hasn't came up since the day she mentioned it. Unless you count today, then she has never brought up the fact that it's almost here.

"How 'bout we go to 10th street on Thanksgiving break, all right? Even though that's next month."

"I guess. I mean, I don't want to go because I haven't been there since I was thirteen. That strip mall flips me out. It's freaky."

"It's going to be fine. You can have anyone you want to come. I wouldn't mind," she said.

  "Okay," is all I said.

"Oh, yeah, yeah," I said as I nod my head.

"Ooh, may I come?" Emma asked. Alexis shot a grin at me.

"Yeah, of course," I responded. "Actually, I'm taking her," I said pointing at Alexis, "you, Lucas, Kyle, Bailey and Rose."

"Hah, you're taking the whole family," she commented, making me chuckle. I see Lucas standing by his locker talking to some girl. Lucas is carrying a textbook and composition notebook for his next class while the girl is not holding a single thing.

"Hey," I said as we walk up to them.

"Hey, Nikki. This is Savannah, my girlfriend. Savannah, this is Nicole, Alexis and Emma," Lucas greets us. She sends a smile back at us, and I return the favor. I feel my face flush red of jealousy.

"Well, I better get going to class. My volleyball," Savannah begins. Oh, she's in volleyball of course, "coach, Coach Harris, will kill me if I'm late to class. And I'm really not in the mood to get her mad. Bye," she said, waving as she walked off towards the girls' locker room. I grit me teeth, and put on a fake smile.

"She's in volleyball? Cool," I said, awkwardly, trying to start a conversation.

"Yeah, she's--she's really good," Lucas replied, stuttering at the process. We stand their in silence before Emma finally decides to speak up.

"Well, Alexis, Nikki and I all have to get going to class. Bye, Lucas," she commented, pulling Alexis and me by our wrists.

-LAST CLASS OF THE DAY-

I copy down the notes on the white board about the twenty-seven amendments in my notebook. I grabbed my highlighter and started highlighting the important facts.

"When you're finished, please get into groups of two or three, and talk about how the US amendments relate to life now. Copy down what you talk about into your notebook. If I hear off topic conversations, then you'll be causing the whole class to get a quiz tomorrow over the amendments," Ms Carter explained. I finish my notes, and Alexis and I start walking to the back of the classroom near Emma. Emma puts her pencil down, and we sit in the two empty seats beside her.

I slam my notebook down on the desk.

"What was that for?" asked Emma.

"I... felt like it. I don't know," I question myself. I flip my notebook open to the next blank page. I title it "Random Talks w/ Alexis and Emma". I mentally laugh and erase it, rephrasing the title, "Relations between Amendments and Present US". I need help.

"Are you okay," Alexis asked me. I looked up from my journal.

"Oh, yeah, yeah," I responded. I instantly think of Savannah. I think about how Lucas and Savannah got together. How they met? Their lives in the near future? I push that thought to the side of my mind; not wanting anything to do about it.

"Nikki," Alexis begins, startling me, "I don't want to get in trouble the day before a break."

"Right, right," I replied. We finally begin talking about our assigned conversation. I don't put in any input, instead I just copy down word for word what Emma and Alexis say.

  -END OF CLASS-

As soon as the bell rings, I rush out of class, looking for Lucas. I find him, and pull him by his shirt, dragging him into the janitors' closet. When I let go of him, he takes a step back away from me.

"What the hell, Lucas?" I asked. I put my palm to my forehead. "You don't like her. I know you." I bite my lip to prevent me yelling at him. A tear rolls down my cheek. I push him back by his shoulders.

"What--What do you want?" he asked.

"Savannah. I want to know one thing you even like about her," I demanded. He's silent for a few seconds before he answers.

"I--I don't... I don't know, Nikki. And why are you crying?"

"Of course you don't," I responded, ignoring his question, shoving him by his shoulder. "What? Are you just using Savannah, or something?" Lucas didn't responded, so I talked for him. "Yeah. Yeah, you are." I sighed and rolled my eyes. "You're trying to get Cali, right?"

He responded quickly, "What? What, no!"

  "Then who?"

"I'm not using her. I like her."

I snickered while I responded, "Hah! You're funny. Yet, you can't even come up with one reason why you like her. You don't even want to say, hmm, she's... pretty? Perhaps, beautiful?"

"I've been dating her for a month."

"A month!?! And you didn't even have the nerve to tell me. What the--Lucas. I'm going to go. I'm gonna miss my bus because of you denying my answers. Bye," I said as I opened the door and walked out, slamming it in his face.
