When I perceive the muffled footfalls of Knuckles as he softly opens the door, peers in, and closes it again, I ignore it. I pretend to sleep as I watch his departure. I pretend to sleep as I observe the steady rising and falling of Moon's chest.
He's breathing.
His pace matches my own.
I wonder if he's faking it for my sake or for his.
