New Day

I watched the sun rise on a new day, and to my delight I saw Edward's car pulling in the driveway. I was grateful he reconsidered. The others had gone on an early hunting trip; they invited me to join, but I wanted to stay and think things over before I met up with them.
"Hey," Edward greeted awkwardly. I turned around to face him, "Hey," I stepped towards him. His thoughts seemed sad, and I wondered what was causing it.

"So you decided to come back," I noted. He nodded, "Yes, I thought about what you said and you're right, I can't abandon you or this family. I need to remember the control I have."

"I agree, you do have control. We all have been learning it for the past ninety years, and we have each other if we struggle," I reminded him. Edward smiled, "You're right, that's what makes a family," "Yes," I agreed with a grin. "I'm sorry Lilly, I hope you'll forgive me," he apologized.

I hugged him, "Of course I forgive you," "Thank you," he hugged me back. Together, we joined the rest of the family to hunt before we had to go to school and work. I went with Alice, Esme, and Rosalie to catch some cougars and the Carlisle and the boys went to go hunt some grizzly bears. Let's just say us girls ended up dominating in our kills.

As my siblings and I were off to school, it began to rain. This was a common thing in Forks so none of us were surprised.

The sky turned dark grey and the rain was coming down in torrents.

Once I found a parking spot, I saw Riley take the parking spot next to mine. I immediately got excited, and he smiled when he saw me.

"Hey beautiful," he greeted and then kissed me. "Hey handsome," I greeted flirtatiously, kissing him back. I didn't care that my family was potentially watching us. "How are you this fine morning?" I asked, taking his hand. We walked to the first class of the day, which was Art, and luckily we had that class together. "I'm doing well, because I get to see you," he smiled warmly. I would have blushed if I could.

"Still sweet as ever, and I'm very excited to see you too," I flirted. Riley had the most adorable smile and I felt like the events of our first date were playing over again, and I didn't mind at all.

The school day seemed to fast forward like a movie, and when it was lunchtime, I did something that I hadn't done before; I didn't sit with my family that day; I sat with Riley.

Out of my peripheral vision, I saw Edward smile encouragingly at me and he nodded. I was grateful he supported me. Rosalie looked nervous, but after our conversation we had, she was less rigid and more encouraging.

I walked with Riley in the lunch line, and to not cause any suspicion I got a fruit salad. I knew I need to eat at least a little bit so that no questions would be raised. I knew what would happen if a vampire ate human food, but this wouldn't kill me. Anything to keep me and my family undercover.

I could feel all eyes on us as we sat down at an empty table. Riley started to eat his sandwich while I hesitantly took a bite of fruit; it felt like I was eating plastic, and I was trying my hardest not to gag.

"Is the fruit not good?" Riley asked concerned. Uh oh, he had noticed that I was having a hard time eating. "No, it's good." I said taking another bite to convince him. "Are you sure?" he wondered if he needed to do anything to help me. "Yeah," I replied. I couldn't keep lying to him, it killed me.

"Wow! Lilly Cullen isn't sitting with her family for once, some wonders never cease!" I heard Jessica Stanley whisper loudly to Bella Swan, and I could clearly hear her due to my enhanced hearing; I had to roll my eyes and put my head in my hands in frustration.
