ANNA'S POV

I continued to run down the path, my heart pounding out of my chest as I struggled to breathe. I could hear the yips of the wolves behind me, but I didn't dare turn around and look. I just needed to find Jared. He would be able to help. He could tell them to not hurt me. Surely they would respect the fact that he was also a wolf?

It was pretty much dark outside now, and barely anyone was around, the town tending to be quiet at night. The other humans would have something to say about seeing me being chased down the street by a bunch of wolves, that I was sure of. It was dangerous for them to be so out in the open.

I was unsure how far behind me they actually were, but it sounded as if I was losing them. I breathed a small sigh of relief as I rounded the corner, Jared coming into view in his wheelchair, his face a picture of shock as I sprinted up to him.

"Woah, woah, woah," he calmed me, frantically looking around as he held onto me. "What's going on, Anna? What happened?"

I peered behind me to see that nobody was following me, but, I heard a few howls, causing Jared to cock his head at me as he took a hold of my shoulders, his eyes trailing up and down me for any sign of injury.

"There were wolves chasing me," I breathed, a metallic taste appearing in my mouth as I tried my hardest to steady my breathing, but I felt as if I was about to throw up. My head was pounding with a stress induced headache, and I had to hold onto Jared's bicep to stop myself from toppling over.

"We had wolves from my pack watching the school," Jared stated, looking off into the distance, shaking his head. "Why were they following you?"

"Some girl," I sighed heavily, pushing my hair away from my face, my eyes beginning to water. "There was some blonde woman who trapped me in the school. She said she was going to torment me until the day I died."

Jared's eyes turned dark, and his jaw stiffened as he sat more upright in his chair, taking a hold of me tighter. "We need to get back. Now."

I turned around again, narrowing my eyes and peering through the darkness, trying to spot a sign of anything following us, but, I couldn't see much. I gave up, beginning to move my feet and walk beside Jared as he pulled out his phone from his pocket, holding it to his ear.

"Hi, the fighters have found something. I imagine they're on their way to inform you now," he spoke, his tone completely and utterly serious, and he looked up at me quickly before dropping his gaze. "Okay, okay. We will see you in a bit. No, she seems okay. Okay, bye."

"Who was that?" I asked after a few minutes of silence, and Jared grumbled, looking up at me.

"Dylan. The wolves would have been following you to make sure that you were okay. They stepped back once they realised you had met up with me," he told me, and I nodded once, feeling like an idiot for running. "They'll be on their way to the pack to tell Dylan about the woman who broke into the school. I wanted to give him a heads up."

I didn't know that wolves were going to be watching the school though, and for all I knew, they could have been with the strange blonde girl, preparing to kill me and drag my body out into the woods.

"Okay, Anna," spoke Jared, swallowing slightly. "This girl you said that was in the school. What did she look like?"

"Blonde," I stated, wracking my brain. "Young. Maybe about your age. She wasn't that tall, but I'm pretty sure she was a wolf. She was really strong."

Jared nodded, taking my hand. "Did she hurt you?"

I shook my head, her hands had dug into my shoulders leaving red marks, but other than that, I wasn't injured. "You don't seem that shocked. Do you know who she is?"
