Why did you call for me? Percy asked the ocean, standing away from the rippling tide in the cover of night.

He had made a clandestine escape from the fort to answer the ocean's call, unable to keep the voices at bay. Being close to his princess did not help its haunting siren calls either, but she was the one luxury Percy refused to give up.

He found himself in a bit of luck, as the visit of the Olympian royals earlier in the day sent the servants and guards into an early slumber.

You're squandering our power, prince of the Sea, called back the waters, tell us to, and we will drown the humans before they have a chance to blink

Percy took a step back, aghast at the suggestion. The oceans and the gods they worshiped were harbingers of peace, not advocates of war and destruction.

How could you suggest that? he asked, clenching his hands, that is not right

What do we know of right and wrong, young prince? All we know is what you wish us to know.

I do not wish for war, he lamented

What a shame....you could be the prince of the world, and the princess you crave could be yours.

He shook his head, steadfast in his stance. He refused to succumb to the wiles of the ocean.

Mute yourself, he sighed, waving his hand dismissively, I do not want to hear your ridiculous words.

As you wish, it whispered back, retreating within itself.

The water stood still, and the moon reflected on its surface, disturbed only by the waning wind.

The prince of the seven seas moved to sit by a rock  nestled within the confines of the beach, far away from the ocean's reach.

He leaned against his jagged surface, clutching his knees as he stared up at the effervescent moon.

He felt at home, at the small distance between the land and sea. Yet his heart missed one thing, his princess.

He'd left his home behind in search of adventure, he longed for the land above the lapping shores.

Yet he found a new home, one which shone with the intensity of the greatest tides and burned bright like the sun he'd yearned to see for all those years under the dim light of the ocean's belly.

The princess of Athens was that home. She was the ocean, she was a marvel. She was a storm contained within herself.

She was his source of power. The mighty current which fuelled the prince of tides.

Percy flexed his fingers as he leaned against the rock.

He wondered what he could do, with the princess not near nor far. What could we do with these powers at all? He'd never had an opportunity to try them before.

He'd feared his father would somehow be alerted if he tested his abilities, after all he was the king of the sea.

But perhaps...

He got to his feet, calling to the ocean again.

He inhaled deeply before willing his mind to listen to the sounds of the sea, to be in synchronicity with its turbulent waves.

He moved his hand upwards, and a joust of power went through him as the water indeed, responded to his calling, moving in accordance with its whims.

He tried a few more times, molding it into shapes, and holding the liquid high in the sky.

He slumped against the beach a while later, breathing shallowly. His back burnt in an odd, yet comforting fashion.

His power burnt fast and true. And though he felt powerful as he faced his home...it lacked the utter invincibility he possessed whenever his princess was in bounds with him.

You are quite the natural, prince of tides, the ocean sang back to him, its voice haunting.

Can you truly do whatever I ask of you? Percy asked it.

We are at your service, my liege. Ask, and we shall oblige.

Then, send not a ripple to my father, Prince Percy ordered, with the bravado of years of court training.

Your wish is our command, it replied. And he could almost feel the ocean's taunting smile.

Percy took a stance, willing the water to still, ensuring not a single drop touched his skin.

He tossed aside his shirt, parting the water underneath him as he stepped onto the sea bed. The sky crackled with the first clap of thunder, droplets of rain pouring seconds after.

The son of Poseidon smiled, as the world around him buzzed in an energy he could feel. Lifting his hands up above his head, he put his powers to the test.
