Comeback

"I just froze and I didn't say anything Miss P." Nick had been sat in Miss Pillsbury's office for a well-being session. He put his head in the table thinking back to Valentine's Day.

Flashback:
"I— I love you." Delilah exclaimed. Nick stood frozen in shock, the girls face falls, "I'm sorry that was... Nick say something anything."
"I—I." He desperately tried to say it, but it wouldn't leave the tip of his tongue. Silence falls and after what feels like an eternity, she grabs his hands, "You don't have to say it back Nick, but I wanted you to know. I know you've got a lot going on and your head is probably fried, but I do... I love you." The more she said it the more his heart did a little jump, but he wasn't sure if it was from excitement or fear. The car ride back to the Williams house she kissed him like normal and bid him farewell as he left the car. He walked up the path to the house, he couldn't fathom how she could be so smiley after being so vulnerable.

"Nick... you're obviously not ready to say it so stop being so hard on yourself." He lifts his head up and looks at the woman, "What is it about the word or the feeling that scares you so much?" It was strange for Nick being able to talk this freely about things, but he trusted Miss Pilsbury with his life at this point, "It's just everyone who says love or I feel love for... they leave me. Like Delilah is going to college soon and I'll be stuck here. Then she'll find someone who deserves her, because I can't even say a damn four letter word to her." He sighs and leans his head against the table again.
"Do—do you love her?" Miss Pilsbury softly asks.
"I think I do..." he answers, "No I do... but something Santana said the other week is eating me alive." He truthfully answers.
"Which was?" The guidance counsellor questions.
"That I love Delilah but I'm not in love with her. Like what does that even mean!" Nick states getting frustrated, Miss Pilsbury freezes as if having her own internal debate.
Eventually she snaps out of it, "Right Nick, the custody hearing is coming up so I think that needs to have our full attention, do you agree?" He sighs and then nods. The two begin talking about the hearing, Nick momentarily forgetting his love life issues.

Nick headed to the Lima Bean after ice hockey practice. Delilah was on shift, the two were still talking as if nothing had happened, but Nick knew he needed to bite the bullet and talk candidly with her. He offered to walk her home and she gladly accepted.

As he walked in he could hear the girl singing in the back and he smiled,
"Some things just aren't that simple
You called me wondering why I changed
Or why I don't look the same
Why I think so differently now
Is it ever gonna change?
Am I gonna feel this way forever?
Are you gonna be around for me to count on? Yeah
Is it ever gonna change?
Am I gonna feel this way forever?
Are you gonna be around for me to count on? Count on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
Some things just never seem to fade
I'm thinkin' 'bout how we were on our first date
You understood the words I was saying
I knew I'd never let you get away
Hold you tight, squeeze you right, tell you what I want
Put me in your bedroom and I'll sing a little song
Hold you tight, squeeze you right, give you all I've got
See you in the morning, over coffee, we'll talk, oh
Is it ever gonna change?
Am I gonna feel this way forever?
Are you gonna be around for me to count on?
Is it ever gonna change?
Am I gonna feel this way forever?
Are you gonna be around for me to count on? Count on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on
On-on-on, on-on-on-on-on."
