Chapter seventeen.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I unconsciously shivered at his husky voice and as his warm breath tickled my neck and ear. I looked up to see his darkened lust filled eyes and I couldn’t help but smile.

“Come on.” I said with a light chuckle as I grabbed his hand and led him out to the vehicle.

Zac opened my door for me to get in then made his way to the driver’s side.

As we made the short trip to the packhouse I couldn’t help but let curiosity take me over. What was so urgent that Daniel had to tell us face to face? He voice gave off many emotion, worry and fear being two of them.

“Jessica?” Zac said grabbing my hand.

I looked up to see that we were at the packhouse and Zac had already opened my door for me, with his hand outstretched waiting for me to get out.

I took his hand and let him help me out and toward the pack house. As we got closer I saw that the front yard had red blotches everywhere. I soon realized that it was blood. I immediately tensed and froze.

“Oh my god.” I breathed as my hand came up to cover my mouth in shock.

Zac immediately came to stand in front of me, blocking my view. I lent my head against his chest as a few tears left my eyes. He wrapped his arms around me and I silently prayed that the blood didn’t belong to anyone from the pack.

“Shh baby, it’s ok.” Zac cooed into my ear as he rubbed his hands up and down my back.

“Please tell me that the blood doesn’t belong to someone from the pack.” I said.

“I don’t know baby, I think that’s why Daniel called us. Come on lets go see what’s going on.” He replied then wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his side so I wouldn’t have to see the blood.

When we entered the house, I was overwhelmed by the depressing atmosphere. We entered the living room and I was greeted by most of the pack with sullen expressions on their faces.

“What happened?” Zac immediately enquired and right after there was a shrill cry.

I turned my attention to where the sound had emanated and saw a middle-aged couple. The man had his arms wrapped around the woman, who was crying hysterically.

Daniel then entered the room and he motioned for us to come.

“What is going on Daniel?” Zac said, growling slightly, his patience decreasing.

I rubbed my hand up and down his back, just as he had done moments ago to calm me down. I saw him relax slightly but was still on edge.

“Umm, I think we should take this to your office” Daniel said and he waited until Zac started in the direction of his office to follow us.

When we entered the office I made my way over to one of the chairs in front of Zac’s desk but he pulled me along with him and after sitting on the chair he pulled me on his lap. I blushed slightly as we were not alone, and my embarrassment only increased when Zac nuzzled my neck, taking in my scent to calm himself down.

He then motioned for Daniel to explain.

“Well some other guys and I were out patrolling the borders and one of them smelt a rogue, so immediately all of us came to that spot. We saw two rogues enter the territory and began running, so we chased after them. What we didn’t know was two other rogues entered the territory after we went after the other rogues, and they came to the packhouse. A few people were outside at the time and when they spotted the rogues they ran inside, but one girl didn’t make it inside in time. The two rogues that we were chasing after purposely led us away from the packhouse so the other two had enough time to beat up the girl, not enough to kill her but enough to put her in a coma. They left this note with her. It was addressed to you Jessica.” He said and that was when I realized the folded white paper in his hand with a few drops of blood on it.

I took the paper from his outstretched hand, unfolded it and I immediately recognized the handwriting.

Dylan.

Of course, how could I be so stupid? I should have known Dylan had something to do with this.

The note read:

My lovely Jessica,

Just a little message to remind you that I’ll be coming for you soon my love. You are mine and mine alone my dear and don’t you forget it.

P.S. I hope your little friend survives, then again I don’t really care.

Love, me.

Zac was slightly shaking and I just rubbed my hand up and down his bicep, well-muscled bicep might I add, to calm him down while looking back at Daniel.

“Daniel who is the girl?” I asked

He looked a little hesitant at first but then replied, “Nicole.”

“Oh God” I reply covering my mouth with my hand in shock.

I didn’t like the girl but that didn’t mean I wanted her to get hurt. And it was my fault. All of it was my fault.

“That was her parents who were crying outside wasn’t it?” I asked and he nodded.

“Can I see her? Is she awake?” I asked.

“She should be waking up around now. The doc gave her some medicine and with her werewolf healing he said she should come out of the coma rather fast.” He replied

“Can you take me to see her?”

“Of course.” He said.

I stood and looked at Zac.

“Are you coming?” I asked.

“No you two go ahead.” He replied and kissed my forehead.
