Spencer couldn't take his eyes off his little sister's body. Her cold, limp body.

Of course, he knows that she's still alive. No, his mother was not a murderer.

She was just way too committed to this whole "Operation Evolutians" thing.

He held onto her cold, pale hand since he found her unconscious last night. Just like when she was in the coma last year and the one from just earlier this month, Spencer held onto her for as long as he could.

"This is why we ran away in the first place, Lauren." He spoke to his sister. "I didn't want this happening to you."

After each Evolutian learns about their powers and the operation as a whole, they are put into a long nap. Why? So that when they wake up, they are stronger than ever.

The thing is, the normal age for that stage is sixteen. Lauren just turned fourteen on this very day.

Spencer ran a hand through his dirty blonde hair. Oh, why did it have to be Lauren? Why couldn't it have been me?

"Spence," He heard his dad say. he looked up. "Do you want to drive or should I?"

"Why are we involved in this, dad?" He asked in reply. "Why is mom so dedicated in this?"

His father looked at Lauren's unconscious body and bit his lip. "You know she-"

"Yeah dad, I know." Spencer interrupted. "I just wish that wasn't the situation. All this being a life of death choice. For her."

His dad sighed. "Do you want to carry her to the car or should I?"

Spencer clutched her hand tighter. "I'll carry her out. In a minute."

"Alright," His dad said. Then walked out the door.

He turned his focus back to Lauren. She's lying on her bed, face buried in a pillow. She looks like she's sleeping since her chest is still rising and falling but he knows better. One touch of her skin and you'd know something is wrong.

"It's gonna be another miserable year, or well, years without you, Lauren." He said. Speaking to her was so natural, even unconscious. Ever since a young age, because of the Evolutians experiments, there were several times where she was out cold. And every time, Spencer would sit on the bed next to her and start talking, like it's the most normal thing in the world.

"When you wake up, you're probably gonna be, like, sixteen," He continued. "It's so weird seeing you grow this fast, especially since for the most part, you aren't awake."

"Spencer!" It was his mom this time. Her voice was sharp. "Bring Lauren to the car. Now!"

He closed his eyes. "Alright, mother."

He picked up his sister, just like in the forest. Her head rests against his chest and he could feel her warm breaths.

He climbed the stairs carefully. One foot after the other. If he fell, so would she.

His mom was in the den. "I'll be out in a minute," She said when he passed. Shockingly she didn't even look up and see, she just knew he was walking past.

He grabbed his keys and walked outside to the driveway. His dad was already there, the back door already open.

Spencer strapped Lauren into the back seat, just like how he did a couple weeks ago. Except this time, she wasn't at the brink of death.

His father took a seat in the driver's seat and started the car. Spencer joined him in the passenger seat. As his father set the GPS to the Institute, he kept looking behind him, making sure Lauren was okay.

Her head was pressed against the window and a stream of drool exited her mouth. He smiled since she looked so adorable. So innocent.

In a couple years, she'll probably be leading an army to the Royal family's front doorstep.

"Spencer?"

He turned to his dad. "Yeah?"

"Are you okay?"

He was confused. "Why wouldn't I be okay?"

His dad gestured to Lauren in the back seat.

Spencer sighed. "I'll be fine, I guess. It's just that, we've been apart a lot lately." He faced the window. "And I miss her for the most part."

His dad tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, a habit Spencer developed from him. "You - you know that I didn't want to hurt you or the others in the forest, right?"

He smiled. "Yeah, dad. I know you don't want to be in this situation."

"But we're just stuck here, aren't we?"

Spencer put his head against the window. "Yeah. Because of mom."

"You know... that mind control stuff is pretty strong." His dad said. "It's gonna be hard for her resist."

The back door swung open and in came Spencer's mom. The boys stopped talking.

"Come on, start driving." She ordered her husband.

He pulled on the seat belt and put the car in drive.

Spencer looked through the rear view mirror and saw his mother's cold, blue eyes staring at him.

He closed his eyes and tried sending a telepathic message to his sister.

You escaped her once at the Institute, but will you be able to escape her when she has full control of you?
