It had now been 4 days after I was released from the hospital. Things were back as they used to be. Everything with Caleb was great. My mom had been pretty distant lately though. She has been working a lot.

Caleb and I were at the compound, when a man came up to us.

"Caleb Prior?" He questions

"Yes." Caleb asks confused

"You need to come with me." He says

"What's this about?" I ask

"Mr Prior is being put on trial." The man says

"For what?" I asked nervously

"That information remains confidential." The man says

Caleb gives me a hug.

"Everything will be ok." He whispers to me before leaving

CALEB! TRIAL? WHAT DID HE DO.

I can't let this happen to him. He did nothing wrong.

At the Trial:

Everyone takes their seats and the council from Abnegation as well as my mother sit.

"The defendant Caleb Prior, has been called here today by a member of the council on account of breaking the rules." One council member says

"Caleb Prior. You are convicted of illegally hiding a Divergent." Another member says

I couldn't believe what was happening to him.

"Does the defendant wish to speak?" A council member asks him

"No you're honors." Caleb says

"Very well, I, Jeanine Matthews, regning leader of Erudite, hearby declare Caleb Prior to live among factionless for his ways."My mother says

"No! You can't do that." I interject

I run down to be with Caleb.

"Caleb, what are they talking about? Tell me this isn't true." I ask him, tears flowing down my cheeks

"It's true. I'm sorry Chloe." he says

"I don't care. I'll love you forever." I say

"It's too late. I'm living factionless now." he says

"Then I will too." I say

"Chloe, you can't do that." he says

"I need to be with you. I can't live without you." I say

"Chlo, you need to understand that this is something I can't let you do." He says

"But I want to. Its my decision." I say

Just then some Erudite guards come and take me away from Caleb.

"NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS. IT ISN'T FAIR. CALEB IS INNOCENT." I say screaming but the guards ignore my attempts. They take me out of the room. I had tears flowing down my cheeks. I've lost two people in a month.

The rest of the day was horrible. I couldn't think straight all day. When it was time to leave I saw my mom waiting for me in the lobby. I couldn't even look at her. It was because of her that Caleb was gone out of my life. I walked down the stairs and walked right past her without looking at her. I just decided to walk home. I ignored my mothers attemps to get me to get in the car. I took the long way home. I walked past a couple factionless and I just lowered my head in silence. For some reason, everything reminded me of Caleb. I wasn't going back home. I couldn't even look my mother in the eye. She had lost all my respect for her. I started wondering if it would even matter if I was alive anymore. Nothing mattered to me anymore, and it never would again.
