In books
When a character
Is frightened
Authors describe fear
As a sharp, cold pang
Or an icy wave sweeping
Through the body

This is a lie

Shock
Shock is cold
Sharp
Sweeping
But fear is not
Fear is warm
Uncomfortably warm
Almost as if you can feel your own blood
A little too thick
And a little to warm
Swimming around inside of you
Passing from your head
To your arms
To your heart
Sometimes making your chest clinch
And your breaths come short
It's warm in the same way
Tears are warm
Prickly
Stinging a bit
In the back of your throat and eyes
When you're just moments
Away from keeping
The warm onslaught
Of tears from cascading

Fear is not a cold wave
It is a warm one
A lake of
Thick
Warm
Uncomfortable
Blood swimming
Around in your veins
And hot
Burning
Nauseating
Tears
Burning in the
Corners of your eyes
And clawing at the back of your throat
Trying to escape

Fear is warm
