chapter five

"PLEASE TELL ME!" Connie begged to Celia later that night as they stood in the kitchen. They already had cleaned up the dining table that the men had taken over with files and Celia had retold her encounter to her sister. "Please! You're the only form of entertainment I have ever since the incident. Steve and I have been arguing about me going back to the comuna for days."

"Okay, okay, fine!" Celia caved in for her sister and leaned back against the kitchen counter. "I had that teaching session today. It was the one I mentioned about teaching the boy English. Anyways, the family was super nice and so was their boy. While I got there the family had the husband's cousin over. The minute I stepped out of the taxi he's already eyeing me up and down. When it's time for me to leave, he walks me out. Y'know we were flirting a little and that's before he asks me to go out so-"

"So you said yes?" Connie interrupted in excitement upon hearing her sister's words.

"Hell no," Celia responded as she shook her head then shrugged. "I said I would think about it, but I don't know. Ever since Javier and I got close and with him staying with me after what happened not too long ago-"

"It stirred up something in you, didn't it?" Connie teasingly wiggled her eyebrows suggestively to Celia which earned her a laugh from her.

"Stop interrupting me," Celia laughed out as she shoved her sister playfully. "I don't know...maybe? I know at first I wanted to maybe just fool around, but I don't think I even want anything with Javier. Besides, the fact that Steve says he just sleeps around. Remember his one informant? She was a prostitute that he slept with for intel. He clearly can't give me what I'm looking for and that's someone who's going to really commit to me."

"Celia, you're still young. You still have time to fool around some more and then get married. You keep arguing with yourself over Javier as if there isn't something between you two that you know you can't ignore. Have fun with him and have fun with the other guy. Life's short and after that you can get married." Connie said to her sister and she noticed the men walking over before leaning in to whisper to her sister. "Besides if Steve's perception of Javier is that he's a womanizer. If he really is one then he wouldn't care about you being asked out so lets see what Javi has to say."

Celia didn't have time to protest against her sister's devious plan as Connie grabbed the dirty glassware from the men and placed them in the sink with the pile of dirty dishes.

"What were you two whispering about over here?" Steve asked as he stood in front of Celia while Javier grabbed another beer from the fridge.

Connie looked at her sister with a small mischievous smile and Celia couldn't bear to even look at any of them so she turned her back towards them. She then met Connie's gaze before she proceeded to give her a look and mouthed to her to not say anything, but of course her sister did so either way.
