Haircuts

One effect of poverty is not just not having enough money to regularly get your haircut, but my mother would tip a couple of dollars so they got a low tip for cutting my hair. Now when I get my haircut I tip at minimum $10 so my hair is always well taken care of.

Going back to poverty. Your hairstyle during middle school and during high school was a major factor in looking attractive or not. I don't think in my youth I ever got a haircut I was happy with, now that I am losing my hair no matter how they cut it I always say good job. There isn't much you can do with what I've got.

Anyways when I reflect on the past I think of how if we had the money I could go to a professional stylist, not a budget one where the haircuts are pro quo for the price. One fortunate thing for my mother was that I only got my haircut once a year so that saved money. I grew up in the era where in 8th grade having long hair was more common than short. So end game is my parents never had enough money for me to get a proper haircut and as a result every time I got my haircut I was always made fun of for how bad it looked. If only there was money.
