Chapter 7

They were sitting on a bench in the lawn at the backside of their department. Anabia was preparing the quiz of Financial Markets while Sabeen was staring pointlessly. Anabia was glancing at her from time to time and she having enough of her friend’s dilemma was now in a mood to confront her.

“Sabeen why are you upset?” She jolted from her seat hearing Anabia

“N-no I .. I’m fine” She was not meeting the gaze of her friend

“Look at me” Anabia demanded but Sabeen was  in no mood to listen to her. She sighed and closed the book in front of her

“Am I not trustworthy enough to share your problems with me?” Feeling dejection in her friend’s tone someone pinched her heart.

“Bia, you know what you’re for me, please don’t say that” She held her hand and gave her an assuring smile

“So when are you going to tell me about Maier?” Now Sabeen was at a loss of words

“B .. Bia y .. you know …”

“Yes, all the time” the hurt was visible in her eyes, “I wanted you to trust me and tell me about it”

Sabeen cannot see her friend hurt so she told her everything, “what should I do Bia I .. I can’t understand, he is stalking me and …” Anabia cut off her

“You feel for him?” They were conversing oblivious to the person who was passing by and hearing them he was now hiding behind the tree

“I …. I’m not sure” Sabeen was confused

“As your friend I can’t see you ruining your life, he is not good for you” Anabia said worriedly while Sabeen couldn’t understand

“What do you mean?”

“If Maier is really sincere to you, he in the first place should’ve sent his parents to you” now he was sure they were talking about him

“I thought the same but I am confused … it looks like he is sincere … I'm afraid I’ll fall for him” She rubbed her forehead and Anabia just pressed her hand

“Look I am your friend Sabeen, please stop yourself before it’s too late… Think about uncle …. what if uncle has selected somebody already for you and as far Maier is concerned … he ..  Maier is not good for you … from where I can see he is a flirt … he is just passing time with you…. I can just advice you but the final decision is up to you” Sabeen lifted her gaze to her while his blood boiled at Anabia’s remarks. He went from there not being able to hear more humiliating remarks about him

“What should I do then?”

“Tell Uncle everything, he can guide you best” Anabia smiled and Sabeen too smiled for the first time

“Thank you, you always give me the best solution”

And Anabia was right. She discussed it with her father and she was grateful to Anabia for her advice. She thanked her inwardly that she didn’t do anything stupid which will let down her father

Zafar Abbas told her that her Aunt Ismat asked her hand for her son Ashir when she was in 8th grade and among the elders of the family she and Ashir were engaged to each other.

“I’m sorry, I should’ve told you earlier .. I was waiting for your exams to finish..  but if you like that boy I’ll reject this proposal” her father put his head down

Her eyes filled with tears.If she goes against her father, he’ll never be able to walk raising his head in the society.  No, she can never see her father’s bowed head
